Job summary

Tri-State Drilling, LLC in Minnesota seeks an experienced Driller to operate drilling and foundation installation equipment and lead crews on complex foundation and civil projects. Projects include helical piles, drilled shafts, micropiles, rock drilling, and related work across the United States.

This IUOE union position reports to a General Foreman or Superintendent, with travel per diem and strong emphasis on safety, schedule coordination, and quality workmanship on demanding infrastructure

Qualifications

• Established Driller with 3+ years preferred.
• Experience with helical piles, drilled shafts, micropiles or similar foundations.
• Ability to read construction drawings and give clear directions.
• Strong safety awareness and teamwork oriented.
• Willingness to travel; DOT screenings and background check required.

Job description

Position Summary

This Driller is responsible for operating drilling and foundation installation equipment and leading crews in the safe and efficient execution of specialty foundation and civil construction projects. Projects may include helical piles, drilled shafts, micro piles, rock drilling, driven pile systems, substation concrete work, and other specialty geotechnical construction services.

Depending on project needs, the Driller may serve as the crew foreman, providing day‑to‑day leadership, coordinating field activities, and ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and customer expectations. This position plays a critical role in delivering complex infrastructure, renewable energy, industrial, and utility projects throughout the United States.

This is a IUOE union position reporting to a General Foreman or Superintendent.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment by following and enforcing standard procedures
• Understand the bid and the contract
• Coordinate all work according to the schedule
• Communicate regularly with the Operations Leadership and Project Manager
• Ensure the timely coordination of material deliveries
• Ensures locates are accomplished
• Assist the team with duties as needed to support the project

Qualifications

• Established Driller experience, 3 years or more preferred.
• Experience with helical pile, drilled shaft, micropile, rock drilling, driven pile, or similar specialty foundation applications preferred.
• Good decision-making skills; operate without direct supervision and work well within your team.
• Ability to read construction drawings.
• Ability to give clear direction. Communicates in a positive manner.
• Valid Class A CDL preferred but not required.
• Prior experience operating drilling equipment with varying methods and conditions
• Must be 21+ years old for interstate CDL travel
• Willingness to travel (company pays per diem and travel expenses)
• Strong decision‑making skills and a proactive mindset
• Team‑oriented attitude with a commitment to safety
• Ability to pass company paid background check, drug screen, and DOT screenings.
• Strictly adhere to all safety requirements, not only for yourself but for the team around.

Work Environment

This role involves hands‑on work at active construction sites, primarily outdoors and exposed to a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind. You will operate in environments with uneven terrain, heavy equipment, and ongoing construction activity. The position requires physical stamina, awareness of surroundings, and the ability to follow safety procedures at all times. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. You should be comfortable performing physically demanding tasks, adapting to changing site conditions, and communicating clearly with crew members and supervisors. Flexibility and a strong commitment to safety are essential.
