Job summary

HNTB is seeking an engineer to assist in producing design calculations, technical reports, and plans for a range of projects. You will work with project teams to deliver designs and analyses, applying engineering principles and design criteria.

The role involves developing conceptual and detailed designs, quantities, and cost estimates, with emphasis on ITS and traffic technology projects. Collaboration and ongoing learning are encouraged in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience.
• Applies engineering principles, geometric design concepts, and analytical problem-solving skills to support planning, design, and implementation of ITS, traffic signal, lighting, and transportation technology projects.
• Assists in preparation of engineering plans, specifications, estimates, and technical reports in accordance with project requirements and standards.

Responsibilities

• Completes assigned work within the schedule and hours provided.
• Responsible for preparation and/or modification for select portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
• Develops project quantities and assists with development of cost estimates.
• Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
• Able to self-sufficiently complete various tasks including research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position performs research, development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge and experience to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB's clients.

What You'll Bring:

• Applies engineering principles, geometric design concepts, and analytical problem-solving skills to support the planning, design, and implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signal, lighting, and transportation technology projects.
• Assists in the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, estimates, technical reports, and design documentation in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards.
• Assists with program management, General Engineering Consultant (GEC) assignments, administrative tasks, meeting coordination, action item tracking, and preparation of technical memoranda and presentations.
• Collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary project teams and supports design coordination, quality reviews, and project delivery activities.
• Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and a willingness to learn transportation systems design and operations.

What We Prefer:

• Engineer Intern (EI) certification.
• Proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer.
• Familiarity with communications networks, connected infrastructure, traffic signal systems, ITS devices, and transportation technologies.
