Job summary

The State of Indiana's Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering professional focused on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Traffic Systems Management and Operations (TSMO). The role includes plan review, site visits, and leading construction meetings within the Traffic Management team.

The engineer will review plans, develop operational processes, and implement TSMO strategies such as managed lanes, traveler information, variable speed limits, and ramp metering,

Qualifications

• Professional Engineers license in Indiana or active pursuit of PE licensure.
• Valid Driver's License.
• At least 4 years of professional experience in civil engineering, transportation research, or closely related field.
• Extensive knowledge of civil engineering theories, principles, and highway/transportation project design.
• Knowledge of AASHTO Design Specifications, ASTM Standards, Indiana Design Manual, and INDOT systems (SPMS, dTIMS, ArcGIS, WMS).
• Ability to prepare and review complex design plans and perform mathematical computations.

Responsibilities

• Review plans and develop operational processes for ITS/TSMO projects.
• Conduct site visits and participate in construction meetings.
• Implement TSMO strategies such as Managed Lanes, Traveler Information, Variable Speed Limits, and Ramp Metering.
• Collaborate with ITS Technicians and other stakeholders.
