Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Tennessee teaching license with SPED endorsement, or eligibility for the appropriate Tennessee license/endorsement.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines related to special education and students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide differentiated and specially designed instruction based on individual student needs.
  • Ability to develop, implement, monitor, and maintain IEPs.
  • Ability to travel between schools and provide services in various educational settings.
  • Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with their IEPs.
  • Serve students across multiple schools, classrooms, and/or educational settings as assigned.
  • Travel between assigned schools to provide direct instruction and support.
  • Review and implement each student's IEP, including goals, accommodations, modifications, services, and other requirements.
  • Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals and make instructional adjustments as appropriate.
  • Collect and maintain accurate student data and educational records.
  • Participate in the development, review, and revision of IEPs.
  • Attend IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, reevaluation meetings, parent conferences, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, administrators, related service providers, parents, and other appropriate personnel.
  • Provide consultation and support to general education teachers regarding accommodations, modifications, instructional strategies, behavior supports, and other student needs.
  • Assist in determining appropriate instructional materials, strategies, and interventions for students with disabilities.
  • Provide instruction and support in the least restrictive environment consistent with each student's IEP.
  • Assist students in accessing and participating in the general education curriculum.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information.
  • Complete required special education documentation accurately and within established timelines.
  • Maintain current knowledge of special education laws, regulations, procedures, instructional practices, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Participate in professional development activities and apply acquired knowledge and skills to instructional practice.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and educational needs.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain appropriate records of services provided at each assigned location.
  • Manage time and travel efficiently to ensure assigned students receive services as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Schools or designee.
