Job summary

Limestone County Board of Education seeks an itinerant Teacher of the Hearing Impaired to serve students with hearing impairments across multiple schools. The role involves direct and consultative services, IEP development, collaboration with the Audiologist, and strong engagement with families.

The ideal candidate holds Alabama teaching certification in HI, demonstrates knowledge of IDEA and inclusive instruction, and can travel between campuses to support students in varied settings.

Qualifications

• AL teaching certification in HI required.
• Bachelor’s in Special Education with HI or Deaf/Hard of Hearing focus.
• SLPI documentation required; ASL a plus.
• Know IDEA and state Special Education laws.
• Collaborative and inclusive education mindset.

Responsibilities

• Attend MET meetings and participate in eligibility discussions.
• Develop and implement IEPs for HI students.
• Collaborate with Audiologist on assistive tech and FM systems.
• Maintain regular communication with families and school staff.
• Consult with outside agencies as needed.
• Assess student needs and tailor instruction accordingly.
• Supervise students in educational settings.
• Provide direct or consultative special education services.
• Design objectives and instructional programs aligned to IEP goals.
• Use appropriate strategies and materials for diverse learners.
• Monitor and maintain assistive technology in use.
• Create activities aligned with curricula and time targets.
• Promote student self-advocacy and independence.
• Support inclusion with materials and planning for general ed teachers.
• Document progress and maintain records; prepare reports.
• Lead and participate in IEP meetings and related tasks.
• Uphold behavioral standards and ethical professional conduct.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and growth.
• Maintain required certifications and professional leadership.
• Attend meetings and carry out additional assigned duties.
