Job Summary

Department of Modern & Classical Languages has an opening for a part time instructor to teach one section of Italian 101 - Elementary Italian in the Fall 2026 semester, beginning Tuesday, September 1st. The schedule for the class is Tuesday/Thursday, 9:00 am - 10:20 am.

Essential Duties

• Use a communicative approach to the teaching of a foreign language, using the target language as much as possible, with minimal English for clarification of some grammar points.
• Prepare daily lesson plans and activities, using a textbook, that engage students in their study of beginning and intermediate Italian, following a syllabus provided by the Department Chair.
• Prepare and grade chapter exams and quizzes, with resources provided by the textbook company; manage an online program for daily homework; and evaluate student performance.
• Maintain a class record and keep attendance.
• Be available for students by appointment to help them with any specific problems they might be having with the course material.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Ability

• Native or near native Italian fluency;
• Thorough knowledge of subject matter;
• Ability to plan and present instructional material in a clear, logical and concise manner;

Qualifications
