Job summary

Herc Rentals seeks a Telematics IT Manager to lead day-to-day management of digital telematics technologies and drive its telematics strategy across platforms. You will collaborate with stakeholders to deliver reliable services and steer the telematics roadmap.

The role requires strong IT leadership, IoT experience, API data ingestion, and the ability to coach a team and work with OEMs. Excellence in communication and project delivery is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• 4–8 years of experience in technology solutions related to construction equipment, fleet, telematics, or logistics preferred.
• Strong IoT background and/or Telematics/Fleet Management as applied in construction equipment or related industry.

Responsibilities

• Develop telematics digital strategy and roadmaps.
• Lead, mentor and coach junior team members in the digital team.
• Lead QA efforts of mobile and desktop applications integrated with telematics.
• Work with stakeholders to develop telematics roadmaps and strategy.

• Create and review requirements and specs for telematics systems and digital platforms.
• Maintain telematics digital solutions against SLAs and KPIs.

• Act as subject matter expert to enhance customer experience and identify solutions.

Job Purpose

As a key member of the Digital Platforms and Innovation team, the Telematics IT Manager will have a leadership role responsible for day-to-day management of Herc’s digital telematics technologies. This role will be responsible for maintaining, monitoring, evaluating, integrating, and updating various digital telematics componentry utilized at Herc. An ideal candidate must also have a strong background in telematics, requirements gathering, and communicating feedback and requests with various internal groups, leadership, and stakeholders.

To be successful in this role you should have a proven record supporting telematics software solutions, coaching team members, working with OEMs, experience with API data ingestion, strong communication skills, a good understanding of general business/functional knowledge, and service orientation.

What you will do

• Develop and manage telematics digital strategy
• Lead, mentor and coach junior team members in the digital team
• Lead QA efforts of mobile and desktop applications integrated with telematics
• Work closely with business stakeholders to develop roadmaps and telematics strategy
• Help the digital team innovate telematics offerings to stay ahead in the marketplace
• Create and review requirements and specification documents of telematics systems and related digital platforms
• Maintain telematics digital solutions in accordance with SLAs and defined KPIs
• Be the liaison between IT and internal business stakeholders to help capture, support and translate their needs.
• Facilitate product ownership, prioritizing enhancements, and providing input to development teams in continuous innovation cycles
• Act as a subject matter expert and source of knowledge who contributes their expertise to enhance customer experience, evaluate needs, and determine suitable existing technical solutions to ensure that customers requirements are met.
• Execute a growth plan to maximize opportunities for Herc Rentals telematics digital services.
• Support new product offerings and digital transformation initiatives.
• Provide analysis and metrics as necessary to enhance performance and improve current and future product features and offerings.
• Represent the Herc brand in a professional manner.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 4 to 8 years of experience in technology solutions related to construction equipment, fleet, telematics, or logistics preferred
• Strong IoT background and/or Telematics/Fleet Management as applied in the construction equipment or related industry

Skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a polished and professional presence
• Strong project management skills
• Understanding of basic telecommunications
• Understanding of telematics OEM technologies including API management and ability to execute firmware upgrades
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment
• Meet critical deadlines for high visibility projects and work constructively while under pressure
• Be an organized and self‑motivated/independent worker with keen attention to detail and follow through
• Able to work with standard software business tools like MS Office (Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Word)
• General AWS/cloud architecture knowledge helpful
• Understanding of mobile apps and technology helpful
