Job summary

City of Manassas is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Engineer II or III to design, implement, and maintain the City’s enterprise network and Mitel VoIP systems. The role focuses on reliability, security, and high performance to support City operations and emergency services.

Responsibilities include configuring network gear, managing VoIP services, coordinating with vendors, and providing Tier II/III IT support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with six years of related experience or equivalent combination
  • Associates' degree for II with four years of related experience or equivalent combination
  • Must have completed required courses and certifications; may need additional certifications as deemed by City

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, maintain, troubleshoot, and support enterprise network and telecommunications systems.
  • Administer and support the City's Mitel phone system, voicemail, VoIP infrastructure, and related services.
  • Configure and maintain network infrastructure including routers, switches, wireless APs, VLANs, ACLs, fiber/copper cabling, and leased data circuits.
  • Monitor network performance, security, and availability; assist with disaster recovery planning.
  • Provide Tier II/III technical support for Windows users via IT help desk; document work in ticketing system.
  • Support non-emergency public safety communications systems, audio logging systems, and related devices.
  • Manage network assets, coordinate equipment purchases, maintain inventory, and work with vendors on issues.
  • Lead or participate in technology projects; coordinate contractors and ensure successful deployments.
  • Prepare technical documentation, maintain system records, and train City staff.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support.

The City of Manassas is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Engineer II or III to support and maintain the City's enterprise network and telecommunications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing technology systems that support City operations and emergency services. The rates for this position are:
  • IT Telecommunications Engineer III: $39.57 - $54.41/hour
  • IT Telecommunications Engineer II: $37.68 - $51.82/hour

This is what you'll do …

  • Provide Tier II/III technical support for Windows users through the City's IT help desk, resolving complex technical issues and documenting work in the ticketing system.
  • Support non-emergency public safety communications systems, audio logging systems, and related communication devices.
  • Manage network and telecommunications assets, coordinate equipment purchases, maintain inventory, and work with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Lead or participate in technology implementation projects, coordinate contractors, monitor project progress, and ensure successful deployment of new systems.
  • Prepare technical documentation, maintain system records, and provide technical guidance and training to City staff.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical City technology systems outside normal business hours.

Must have successfully completed required courses and certifications; may be required to obtain additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City.
