The IT Systems Support Professional will play a strategic role in designing, implementing, and supporting a modern, scalable technology infrastructure to meet the growing research and academic data needs of the University of Georgia School of Medicine. This position will focus on the deployment and administration of server, storage, virtualization, backup, and recovery systems, with a strong emphasis on supporting research data, system performance, availability, and security.
The role serves as a technical resource in the management and growth of the School of Medicine's infrastructure environment and collaborates with faculty, researchers, IT leadership, central UGA IT (EITS), and vendors to ensure technology solutions align with institutional and research objectives.
Administer and maintain enterprise data storage and virtual infrastructure supporting academic, administrative, and research operations. This includes enterprise storage platforms, shared data repositories, virtual machine infrastructure, and data resources supporting operational and research workloads.
Responsibilities include administration of NAS, SAN, and software-defined storage technologies, ensuring data availability, performance, scalability, and long-term sustainability. The position will manage storage provisioning, capacity planning, performance monitoring, lifecycle planning, troubleshooting, and access management.
Administer virtual machine environments and associated compute, storage, and infrastructure resources. Responsibilities include deployment, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, optimization, and performance tuning of virtual servers supporting institutional systems and research applications.
While collaborating with central UGA IT (EITS) on network-related issues, maintain sufficient networking knowledge to support virtual infrastructure, storage systems, authentication services, and related technologies.
Work closely with faculty, researchers, vendors, and technical partners to ensure storage and virtualization environments continue to meet current and future institutional needs.

Oversee the deployment, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of physical and virtual servers supporting academic, administrative, and research operations. Responsibilities include administering Windows and Linux server environments, applying updates and security patches, monitoring performance, and ensuring system availability and reliability.
Manage authentication technologies including Active Directory, LDAP, single Sign-On (SSO), and SSL/TLS certificate services. The professional will collaborate with vendors, central UGA IT (EITS), and internal stakeholders to support enterprise systems and ensure operational stability.
Provide technical consultation and support for research initiatives requiring specialized computing infrastructure and collaborate with faculty and researchers to align technology resources with evolving project requirements.

Responsible for implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving enterprise data protection, backup, recovery, replication, and retention solutions supporting critical academic, administrative, and research systems.
Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining backup schedules, retention policies, recovery procedures, disaster recovery strategies, and business continuity practices to ensure institutional data remains protected and recoverable.
Monitor backup operations, validate successful completion of backup processes, investigate failures, perform restoration testing, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
A key responsibility of this position is ensuring organizational readiness for disaster recovery events through regular testing, documentation, validation, and continuous improvement of recovery procedures. The professional will collaborate with stakeholders to conduct disaster recovery exercises, verify restoration capabilities, and identify opportunities to improve resiliency and business continuity.
Implement and maintain technologies supporting replication, redundancy, secure storage, and long-term preservation of institutional and research data.

Participate in planning, designing, and implementing infrastructure solutions that support current operational needs and future growth. Responsibilities include developing technical specifications, evaluating emerging technologies, documenting architecture and configuration standards, and supporting infrastructure modernization efforts.
Contribute to project planning, identify dependencies and risks, coordinate with vendors and technology partners, and provide recommendations regarding storage, virtualization, backup, and infrastructure technologies.
Infrastructure designs and recommendations should emphasize scalability, reliability, security, performance, and long-term sustainability while supporting the School of Medicine's academic, administrative, and research missions.
