Hensel Phelps is seeking an IT Systems Engineer I to ensure stability and efficiency of in-house and cloud information systems supporting core organizational functions.

The role designs, builds, manages, and supports infrastructure services, applying strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to maximize IT investments.

Qualifications

  • Formal education in computer science preferred.
  • Certifications in Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, VMware VCA-DCV or ITIL preferred.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation, monitoring, logging and ability to adopt industry best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Planning: assist IT Infrastructure Manager in IT strategy development for infrastructure service delivery and lifecycle management.
  • Implement policies and procedures set by IT leadership.
  • Deploy, manage, and maintain the enterprise’s infrastructure/business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation and help sheets for IT infrastructure systems.
  • Procurement & Deployment: support in-house and cloud infrastructure projects and new technology installations.

Job Description

The IT Systems Engineer I role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in‑house and cloud information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by designing, building, managing and supporting the infrastructure services that underpin all internal user services and services to the public. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy & Planning Support and assist the IT Infrastructure Manager in the development of IT strategies in collaboration with the other IT team members with specific focus on infrastructure service delivery and life cycle management
  • Implementing and maintain policies and procedures set by the IT leadership
  • Deploy, manage, and maintain the enterprise’s infrastructure Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan set by the IT Infrastructure manager and IT leadership
  • Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation, procedures manuals, and help sheets for all IT infrastructure systems
  • Procurement & Deployment Support development and implementation of the in‑house and cloud Infrastructure systems projects and new technology installations
  • Conduct research on cloud and in‑hose datacenter infrastructure products, services, and standards in support of IT infrastructure procurement and development efforts
  • Evaluate and recommend cloud/in‑house hosted systems and solutions for purchase
  • Write technical specifications for purchase of infrastructure systems
  • Operational Management IT infrastructure
  • You can build, configure, administer and support infrastructure technologies and solutions such as: computing, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, COTS and open‑source packages and solutions, and virtual and cloud computing, including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS

Qualifications
  • Formal Education & Certification College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science preferred, and/or 2+ years equivalent work experience
  • Certifications in Microsoft Certified Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, VMware VCA-DCV or ITIL preferred
  • Knowledge & Experience Knowledge of infrastructure automation, monitoring, logging, reporting and ability to adopt industry best practices and build high-performance infrastructures that are self-healing, scalable & resilient
  • Working knowledge in Azure cloud infrastructure with a hands‑on experience using Azure resources and Services
  • Also good knowledge with Platform Sizing, Infrastructure Cost Reduction Basic knowledge in configuring Dell Server/Storage Hardware Basic knowledge in setting up and deploying Forward/Reverse Proxies Basic knowledge in VMware vSphere (6.x - 7.x) Hypervisor including VMware NSX, Storage vSAN and iSCSI targets
  • Microsoft DirSync/Azure AD Connect, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, GPO, SRS, FRS, RADIUS, Microsoft NLB, Microsoft Failover Clustering, IIS, Microsoft PKI/CA/SSL certificate infrastructure Microsoft RDS (Farms, RDSH, RDG, RDWA, NPS (CAP & RAP), RDCB and UPD) Microsoft SQL Database Administration (SQL queries, SQL PROCs, Database health maintenance, performance, backup, restore) SQL server 2012, 2014, and 2019
  • Scripting in Python or similar general-purpose scripting environment (VBS, PowerShell and Batch/CMD scripting) Windows Server 2012, 2016 and 2019 Datacenter OS level
  • Manage Exchange Servers 2016 and 2019 in DAG (Database Availability Group) environment (Client Access, Hub Transport and Mailbox rules) Networking Knowledge (Preferred CCNA Level) Good troubleshooting skills and root cause analysis Help plan, maintain, improve Infrastructure BCDR (Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery) Strong system administration (Linux/Unix and Windows) at the command-line level

Physical Requirements

Education

Compensation

Annual Base Salary Range: $74,100.00 - $81,900.00 USD
