The City of Kennewick seeks an IT Systems Administrator (Level I or II) to manage the Bi-County Police Information Network (BIPIN) and related IT infrastructure. The role covers VMware, SQL Server, network admin, and end-user support across city departments.
The position offers daytime work with potential after-hours support; level determined by qualifications and city needs. A bachelor's degree is required with relevant IT experience.
The City of Kennewick is hiring for either a Level I or Level II IT Systems Administrator; only one position is available. While candidates meeting the qualifications for either level are encouraged to apply, the City anticipates filling the position at the Level I classification.
Level I: $7,675 - $9,824
Level II: $9,223 - $11,806
Target Hiring Range: The City anticipates hiring within Steps 1-5 of the applicable salary grade, depending on qualifications (DOQ).

Under general direction of the Information Technology (IT) Manager, the IT Systems Administrator - BIPIN provides technical support & maintenance for the regional Bi-County Police Information Network (BIPIN). This includes responsibility for all administration of the BIPIN system and environment. Examples of assigned duties include VMwareServer administration, software performance and functionality, SQLDatabase administration, network infrastructure, system licensing, storage and backup management. Responsibilities also include working with staff from BIPIN member agencies. Participates in evaluating and recommending new technologies, and provides technical advice and support to BIPIN users in the appropriate use of technology. This position shares responsibility, on a scheduled basis, to provide after-hours support.
This position is a two level series. The IT Systems Administrator - BIPIN II is distinguished from the IT Systems Administrator - BIPIN I by the increased complexity of assignments, the greater degree of independence with which it operates, the experience required to perform the work, and the years of service with the City.
The initial work schedule for this classification will be full-time, Monday through Friday. Early mornings, evenings and weekend work may be occasionally required. Overtime may be occasionally required. This classification is exempt under the FLSA.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and a minimum of two years of experience in the following areas: Microsoft Desktop OS, Windows Server, Microsoft Active Directory, intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Enterprise Content Management and Reporting systems, Public Safety Records and Jail Management Software, or any combination of relevant education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties listed above.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field and a minimum of five years of experience in Level I fields as well as in the following areas: advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Project Management, SQL Administration and database management, T-SQL, or any combination of relevant education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties listed above.
