IT Support Technician - Site Systems

The Support Technician will be joining the IT team in a Microsoft-centric environment. The position will involve assisting TerraPower users and external contractors in Kemmerer, WY with setup and troubleshooting of desktop applications and technologies, including specialized engineering software, Microsoft Office365, laptop hardware, networking appliances and peripherals.

Candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be available for after-hour support, while maintaining strong and professional customer service.

Additional designated work will be primarily determined based on level of experience, areas of interest, and strengths in background and work history.

This position is based on the site of an active, live construction project and carries a broader scope of technical ownership and autonomy than a typical desktop support role. The successful candidate will work closely with on-site leadership to translate a wide range of emerging and often loosely defined technical needs - spanning network infrastructure, connectivity, security systems, and specialized software - into practical solutions. This individual will be trusted with the latitude to make independent technical decisions in the field, and in turn is expected to communicate clearly with central IT leadership about the risks, limitations, and trade-offs of any interim solutions, and to help determine when and how those solutions should be formalized or migrated into standard, centrally supported infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Handling escalated tickets.
• Utilizing existing and creating new Internal and external knowledge base documents to assist with ticket resolution.
• Active Directory Account maintenance.
• PC Lifecycle Management.
• Inventory Receiving, Management & Tracking.
• Provide onsite support during normal hours, after-hours as needed.
• Familiar with Jira ticketing system.
• Hosting on-site IT Orientation for new employees.
• Basic Audio\Visual support.
• Support office and active construction environment Partner directly with on-site construction leadership to gather, translate, and prioritize technical requirements as they emerge - often without formal specifications - across a broad range of systems and technologies (e.g., network infrastructure and connectivity, physical security/access systems, and specialized engineering or construction software).
• Diagnose and resolve connectivity and infrastructure issues across varied, and at times non-standard, network environments and topologies encountered in an active construction setting.
• Provide support for specialized, site-specific applications used by construction personnel and contractors, developing working familiarity with new tools as they are introduced.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison between the construction site and the central/corporate IT systems team, coordinating on standardization, escalations, and infrastructure planning.
• Exercise independent judgment to design and implement interim solutions for site-specific needs that fall outside documented processes or standard support scope, clearly communicating associated risks and trade-offs to leadership, and driving toward standardized or centrally supported solutions when appropriate.
• Translate complex infrastructure and architectural constraints into clear, practical guidance for non-technical staff and leadership (for example, explaining why a virtual desktop environment may behave differently than a locally installed application).
• Operate with a significant degree of autonomy and elevated system access appropriate to the demands of the site, exercising sound judgment and accountability for the solutions implemented.

Key Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum 2 years combined relevant IT Customer Service experience and a H.S. diploma; CompTIA A+ certification, A.A. or H.S. degree preferred.
• For this role, 4+ years is strongly preferred, with meaningful hands-on experience in networking and systems administration rather than desktop support alone.

• A general understanding of modern Information Security principles and practices.
• Experience with a commercial ticketing system JIRA.
• An understanding of desktop and laptop hardware.
• Office 365 applications and their use in a corporate environment.
• Prior tenure working on active construction site and construction safety awareness desired.
• Experience with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) platforms (e.g., Citrix, VMware Horizon, Azure Virtual Desktop) and the ability to clearly explain their capabilities and limitations to end users.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in ambiguous situations, exercise sound judgment, and transparently communicate trade-offs and risk to leadership and stakeholders.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with demonstrated success coordinating between on-site/field operations and central or corporate IT teams.

Qualifications and Skills (Nice to have, equivalent experience or willing to learn)

• Experience troubleshooting satellite internet (VSAT) connectivity and other non-standard/remote-site connectivity solutions.
• Familiarity with, or the demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, construction management software and 3D/engineering modeling tools (e.g., SmartPlant 3D / SP3D).
• Experience with physical security/access control (badging) systems and their integration with IT network infrastructure.
• Prior experience in an elevated or senior-level IT support/systems role, ideally within a construction, industrial, or remote/field site environment.
• Comfortable being granted elevated system permissions and being held accountable for decisions made regarding site-level technical solutions.
