Job summary

GFB is seeking an experienced network engineer to provide expert firewall and Cisco equipment support. The role covers routers, Nexus switches, wireless controllers, APs, and fiber optic infrastructure.

You will implement security policies, manage VPN technologies, and document network topologies while planning future upgrades in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in IT or computer science.
• 8+ years of IT experience, preferably in networking.
• Strong knowledge of core networking functions (routing, switching).
• Cisco certifications such as CCNA/CCNP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert support for firewall configuration and maintenance.
• Configure and support Cisco routers, Nexus switches, wireless controllers, and APs.
• Work with VLANs (802.1q) and security policy implementation.
• Support fiber optic networks and enterprise-level infrastructure.
• Assist with VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL VPN, AnyConnect, DMVPN).
• Document network topologies and plan upgrades.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Expert levelsupport of firewall configuration and maintenance, experience with Cisco equipment preferred
• Expert level skills of configuration, installation,troubleshooting, and supporting Cisco Networking equipment (Routers, Nexus and access switches), Wireless Controllers and Access Points, Computers, Servers and peripherals
• Expert level knowledge with 802.1q VLANs and working within industry best practices
• Working knowledge of Security policies and principles with implementation experience
• Experience building and maintaining fiber optic networks
• Experience maintaining an enterprise-level infrastructure, including fiber optics
• Working experience implementingnetworktrafficanalysis, remote access methods and systems, state full inspection firewalls, encryption, authentication and authorization technology.
• Hands on technical experience working with VPNtechnologies (IPSEC, SSL VPN, WebVPN, AnyConnect,DMVPN, etc.)
• Position has responsibility for a component of IT security for their functional area

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS

• Respond to network administration, operations, and maintenance problems while off duty, on an on-call basis
• Understanding of802.11G/N in both the 2.4 and 5GHz frequencies
• Ability to engineer, build, and test networks for optimum reliability
• General understanding of VoIP equipment and operation, POE technologies
• Able to work withaVoIPprovidertodeployandsupport
• Knowledgeable in applicationtransportand network infrastructure protocols(SSL/TLS, DNS, DHCP, WINS, NTP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, CIFS, LDAP,and Microsoft AD),andpossess an understanding of how to support these applications/ protocols when accessed through VPN and firewall appliances
• Configuring network services using open source technologiesonLinuxservers
• Comfortable documenting andexplaining network topologies
• Understand and diagram existing network
• Diagram, plan and explain future upgrades
• VMwareEnterpriseadministration understanding
• Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technologies and products, independently using documentation and online resources
• Strongoral, written, communications, and presentation skills

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree is required: preferably in Information Technology or computer science
• Eight plus years’ work experience in information technology field: preferably in network field; Master’s degree may substitute for some work experience
• Outstanding Knowledge of Core Networking functions (Routing, Switching, OSI Model)
• Certifications: Cisco CCNA, CCNA Security and/or CCNP (preferred)

• Must have and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and maintain a driving record that complies with the Underwriting guides for the Mutual Insurance Company
• Extensive knowledge of the Operating System used on desktops and laptops is required
• Advanced skill in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications in required, including Visio

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Willingness to mentor morejunior staffmembers and support personnel

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Experience in a fast paced support environment in networksasa memberofa24x7x365 network and/or security operations team
• Must be able to concentrate for long periods of time
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds on occasional basis
• Working in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces as needed
