Job summary

Nelnet seeks a software professional to develop enterprise-wide cross-functional software solutions, collaborating with IT Architects and IT Business Analysts. The role supports a hybrid work model with in-office requirements within 30 miles of listed U.S.

offices. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's in CS (or equivalent) and at least 3 years of software development experience, with strong SDLC and agile delivery knowledge, plus security and compliance awareness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in software development.
• Strong knowledge of the full software development lifecycle; exposure to agile or iterative delivery preferred.
• Ability to obtain a security clearance and familiarity with NIST compliance is strongly desired.

Responsibilities

• Participate in solution design to satisfy a wide range of business needs.
• Analysis and translation of business requirements into technical requirements for development, and creation of design documents and technical specifications.
• Adhere to Best Practices and Standards in technology and security.
• Provide post implementation support including monitoring application performance and debugging existing code.
• Keep abreast of advancements and changes in technology and develop an understanding of how new technologies can be leveraged to provide business solutions.

Responsible for developing enterprise wide cross‑functional software solutions, working closely with IT Software Architects and IT Business Analysts technical teams.

External candidates must reside within a 30-mile radius of one of the below office locations:

• Centennial, CO
• Lincoln, NE
• Madison, WI

Nelnet believes in a hybrid work environment. The standard hybrid work schedule includes 24 hours of in-office work each week, for associates that reside within 30 miles of an office. This is subject to change, based on manager discretion.

NOTE: Internal Associates working in a remote capacity may be considered for this position.

Job Responsibilities

• Ability to obtain a security clearance.
• Knowledge in the area of NIST compliance strongly desired.

Annual compensation range for this role is $60,000-$120,000, depending on experience.

This position requires work in support of the Company's contract with the United States Department of Education ("ED"). As such, the United States Government requires that any applicant for this position must complete United States Government security clearance. Effective June 1, 2018, ED has informed Nelnet that security clearance applications for foreign nationals are not being accepted or processed. In light of this direction from ED, Nelnet will be unable to hire applicants without United States citizenship for such positions.
