Job summary

Invariant LLC in Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced IT leader to oversee the firm’s full spectrum of IT functions. This hands-on role blends technical expertise with strategic planning to secure data, manage infrastructure, and shape IT policies for a fast-growing professional services firm.

Reporting to the COO, you will mentor a small IT team and ensure seamless operations across macOS/Windows, Azure, and Microsoft 365, including security, backups, and user support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field preferred.
• 7+ years of broad IT experience.
• Full-time, in-person attendance at DC office.
• Experience mentoring a direct report or small team.
• Strong knowledge of Apple products and iOS.
• Experience with blended IT roles.
• Strong understanding of IT strategy for a fast-growing business.
• Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with IT resource management.

This role is responsible for overseeing the firm’s complete spectrum of IT functions. The individual will proactively manage the IT infrastructure, anticipate our needs in the future, ensure the security and integrity of the firm’s data, and help to guide IT strategies and policies. This hands-on role requires a unique blend of technical proficiency, strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities, and exceptional customer relations.

What you’ll do:

Systems Administration:

• Serve as trusted advisory to COO, flagging risks, opportunities, and infrastructure needs before they are urgent.
• Manage and maintain network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls). Lead the technology implementation of new office openings, relocations, and expansions, including network, hardware, AV/Conferencing, phones, and physical security systems.
• Implement and maintain IT security measures (antivirus, intrusion detection).
• Manage cybersecurity, backups, and disaster recovery, as well as oversee employee training, communications reminders, and incident response. Keep pace with the growing threat landscape and translate risk into terms leadership can act on.
• Monitor system performance and identify issues.
• Plan and implement IT projects (system upgrades, software deployments).
• Maintain IT documentation.
• Administer managed platforms such as SentinelOne, Addigy, and Microsoft 365 (including Azure and PowerShell).
• Manage the IT resources, subscriptions, and vendors. Evaluate relationships with vendors to make recommendations with scalability in mind.

Technical Support:

• Oversee manager charged with support to end-users (hardware, software, network) to keep employee experience front and center.
• Lead or facilitate technical trainings for new hires and staff in coordination with manager.
• Oversee user account and permission management to ensure fast issue resolution, smooth onboarding/offboarding, and ensuring access to tools to make employees' jobs easier.
• Maintain IT equipment and supplies inventory.
• Document technical issues and solutions.

Support Strategic IT Planning:

• Develop and implement IT strategies aligned with business objectives.
• Work with the Operations team to develop and maintain IT policies and procedures.
• Stay current with IT trends.

Who you are:

• Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field preferred.
• 7+ years of broad IT experience, demonstrating technical and strategic skills.
• Genuine care about employee experience. You see IT as a service to our employees as your clients.
• This role requires full-time, in-person attendance at our DC office, Monday through Friday.
• Demonstrated ability to manage, mentor, and develop a direct report or small team.
• Strong knowledge of and experience working with Apple products and iOS platform.
• Experience with similar blended roles is preferred.
• Strong understanding of business needs and IT strategy for a fast-growing business
• Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with IT resource management.

Strong technical skills across:

• MacOS and Windows operating systems.
• Common software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
• Networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPNs).
• IT security best practices.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage time.

The target salary range for this role is $185,000 – $215,000 USD annually. This position may require evening and weekend work, sometimes without advance notice.

The base salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and market data.
