Job summary

Alstom in Jamaica, NY is seeking a Systems Engineer to install, configure, and manage networking devices, servers, and operating systems. You will collaborate across departments to improve reliability and security of our infrastructure.

We value 5+ years in mixed Windows/Linux environments, Red Hat/CentOS experience, and AD management. A NYS license is required. The role includes audits and disaster recovery planning with a competitive compensation package.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • At least 5 years of network/systems engineering experience in mixed Windows/Linux environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Red Hat/CentOS Linux operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server (2012/2016) and Active Directory management.
  • Experience with systems monitoring and management in high-availability data centers.
  • A valid license per New York State motor vehicle laws.

Your future role

As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and managing networking devices, servers, storage, and operating systems within our organization. You’ll collaborate with various departments to investigate system issues and develop solutions that enhance our infrastructure's reliability and security. Your expertise will play a vital role in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information processed across our networks.

We’ll look to you for:
  • Installation, configuration, and management of networking devices and servers.
  • Evaluation and recommendation of network-related procurement.
  • Investigation of system issues to determine root causes and implement solutions.
  • Planning and administration of network security measures.
  • Development and maintenance of up-to-date system architecture.

All about you

We value proactive problem-solving and technical expertise. We don’t expect you to have every single skill listed, but the following qualifications will help you excel in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in network and/or systems engineering and administration in a mixed Windows/Linux environment.
  • Current experience with Red Hat/CentOS Linux operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server (2012/2016) and Active Directory management.
  • Experience with systems monitoring and management in a high-availability data center environment.
  • A valid license in accordance with New York State Motor Vehicle Laws.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with VMware ESXi, vSphere, and related VMware technologies, including system design, scalability, and capacity management.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical systems such as CCTV/VMS, PACS, PI, and PA systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience with MS SQL and MariaDB databases is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server environments (2012/2016/2019/2022), including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy Object (GPO) management.
  • UHF radio communication experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Nexsan and QNAP storage systems, and Cisco networking devices (switches, routers, firewalls).
  • Proficient in TCP/IP-based LANs, iSCSI, Fiber Channel SANs, and VPN
  • Professional certifications A+, Network+, Security+, CCNA, MCSA 2016 and VCP
