Job summary

State of Michigan is seeking a Security Analyst to join the Vulnerability Management Team in Dimondale, MI. The role focuses on remediating cyber incidents and vulnerabilities while safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of state data.

A hybrid schedule is possible (remote 3 days/week, office 2 days/week within Michigan). Education requirements include IT Programmer/Analyst levels with degrees and years of experience; alternate education paths are described.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree with 16 semester (24 term) credits in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, information assurance, IT project management or mathematics.
  • Bachelor's degree with 21 semester (32 term) credits in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, information assurance, IT project management or mathematics.
  • Two years of professional IT experience equivalent to an Information Technology Infrastructure or Programmer/Analyst P11.

Responsibilities

  • Remediates cyber incidents and vulnerabilities while maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of State of Michigan data.
  • Works as a member of the Vulnerability Management Team to ensure secure IT operations.

Job Description

The Security Analyst position works as a member of the Vulnerability Management Team. The Security Analyst position remediates cyber incidents and vulnerabilities while maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of State of Michigan data.

Position Location/Remote Office:

This position is located in Dimondale, MI. This position may work a hybrid schedule (remote 3 days per week/office 2 days per week). Selected candidates who work a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Information Technology Programmer/Analyst 9
Possession of an Associate's degree with 16 semester (24 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, information assurance, IT project management or mathematics.

Information Technology Programmer/Analyst P11/12
Possession of a Bachelor's degree with 21 semester (32 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, information assurance, IT project management or mathematics.

Experience

Information Technology Programmer/Analyst 9

Information Technology Programmer/Analyst 12
Two years of professional experience equivalent to an Information Technology Infrastructure or Programmer/Analyst P11.

Educational level typically acquired through the completion of high school and two years of experience as an application programmer, computer operator, IT Technician, or two years (4,160 hours) of experience as an Information Technology Student Assistant may be substituted for the education requirement.

Information Technology Programmer/Analyst P11 - 12
Possession of an associate’s degree with 16 semester (24 term) credits in computer science, information assurance, data processing, computer information, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, IT project management, or mathematics and two years of experience as an application programmer, computer operator, or information technology technician; or two years (4,160 hours) of experience as an Information Technology Student Assistant may be substituted for the education requirement.

OR

The educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of experience as an application programmer, computer operator, information technology technician, or four years (8,320 hours) of experience as an Information Technology Student Assistant may be substituted for the education requirement.

Additional Requirements and Information

SIGNING BONUS: This position may be eligible for a sign‑on bonus up to $2,500. Up to $1,250 to be paid upon new hire and the remainder to be paid after satisfactory completion of the initial probationary period (12‑month period). This does not apply to current state employees.

Michigan State Police background check is required. This extensive background check requires fingerprinting for state and federal criminal background records. The background check search will include, but is not limited to, arrests, criminal charges, criminal convictions, and any information regarding contact with a criminal justice agency.
