Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with DSU EPSCOR and CIBER teams to support research computing.
  • Liaise between DSU IT Research Cyberinfrastructure and Delaware regional higher education groups.
  • Provide end-user support for research computing hardware, software, and workflows.
  • Identify and optimize workflows leveraging national HPC resources and DSU/UD assets.
  • Educate and train users on research systems and services.
  • Develop and broaden statewide research cyberinfrastructure user community.
  • Offer workshops and one-on-one training for HPC environments.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for procedures and workflows.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job description

The IT Research Cyberinfrastructure Analyst position is based within the Center for Integrated Biological and Environmental Research (CIBER) and supports Information Technology initiatives tied to Delaware State University's EPSCOR program. This position is responsible for providing the infrastructure, applications, and services essential to sustain the University’s expanding research portfolio. Supporting research is both a strategic and operational priority for the central IT organization and is considered fundamental to the strategic goals of the University and the State of Delaware. The IT Research Cyberinfrastructure Analyst will work very closely with the DSU EPSCOR and CIBER Director, offering necessary support to the DSU EPSCOR Team and faculty associated with the program. The IT Research Cyberinfrastructure Analyst possesses exceptional technical and communication abilities, demonstrating curiosity, creativity, perseverance, self-direction, and a strong work ethic. This individual excels both independently and collaboratively. The E-CORE Program represents a collaborative partnership among the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, Delaware Technical and Community College, Goldey Beacom College, and Wilmington University. Supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Delaware EPSCoR E-CORE seeks to strengthen educational and research capacity throughout the State of Delaware. By leveraging state and federal resources, Delaware EPSCoR strengthens research infrastructure, advances STEM education, and fosters economic development. To further program objectives, the IT Research Cyberinfrastructure Analyst serves as the College’s IT Applications Scientist, facilitating access to shared research computing resources across DSU campuses, partner institutions, and statewide. The Scientist works closely with faculty, staff, and students, guiding them in optimal utilization of various computational assets, including existing servers at DSU and UD's High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems, research computing platforms, and data storage solutions. The IT Applications Scientist reports directly to the Director of DSU EPSCOR and CIBER. This is a non-tenured professional staff position.The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
  1. Participates as a member of a highly technical and customer-service driven team, forging close working relationships with scientific research groups across Delaware.
  2. Be the Liaison between DSU Information Technologies-Research Cyberinfrastructure division and different groups from the Delaware regional institutions of higher education.
  3. Provides end user support services to faculty, staff, and students (both within the University of Delaware, and with its community partners) on the use of research computing hardware and software as well as scientific applications and scientific workflows.
  4. Identifies and understands the research and education activities that can benefit from research cyberinfrastructure at DSU, for example at national supercomputing centers; engage users to help develop and optimize workflows that effectively and efficiently use these resources.
  5. Educates and trains both novice and experienced users regarding research systems and services, based on extant and emerging researcher needs and user experiences.
  6. Works proactively to identify and develop the statewide research cyberinfrastructure user community and to broaden engagement across Delaware.
  7. Provides workshops and one-on-one technical assistance and training in the use of a shared high-performance computing environment and associated scientific software.
  8. Maintains technical knowledge and keeps abreast of technical developments in area of expertise.
  9. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, systems, and applicable laws and standards. Makes recommendations for use of specific applications on campus when appropriate.
  10. Create and maintain technical documentation for procedures and workflows.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
