Job description

IT Project Engineer

Application Deadline: 30 November 2026

Department: Projects

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Louisiana

Reporting To: Leighton Poley

Description

The Professional Services Project Engineer delivers ITC's client technology projects across Microsoft 365 and identity, network, server, cloud, and endpoint environments, from scoping and planning through cutover and a quality-controlled handoff to service.

Beyond technical execution, this engineer plans the work, runs client calls, documents thoroughly, and drives vendors to resolution. The role handles many small projects at once as well as large multi-site and multi-company programs.

This is a hands-on delivery role. The Project Engineer is accountable for completing projects to scope, on schedule, and fully documented, leaving each environment ready for Service to support.

Key Responsibilities
1. Microsoft 365 & Identity
  • Implement identity and access management, including Entra ID, MFA, and conditional access.
  • Perform Microsoft 365 tenant setup and migrations.
  • Deploy and configure Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams.
  • Configure Microsoft 365 licensing and security settings.
  • Design, clean up, and consolidate Active Directory environments.
  • Manage Entra Connect sync, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
2. Cloud, Server & Infrastructure
  • Deploy and manage Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Azure infrastructure.
  • Build and support Hyper-V, VMware, and remote desktop environments.
  • Execute Windows Server builds, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Deploy file and print services.
  • Deploy backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Deploy business applications, including CRM, ERP, and line-of-business systems.
3. Network & Endpoint Deployment
  • Deploy and configure firewalls, switches, and wireless.
  • Configure VLANs, VPNs, and ISP circuits.
  • Deliver new-site network buildouts.
  • Execute device deployments and refreshes.
  • Enroll devices through Intune and Autopilot, and manage application rollouts.
  • Conduct site surveys and network assessments.
4. Security & Compliance
  • Roll out MFA, EDR, and backup across client environments.
  • Deliver compliance-driven builds, including GCC, CMMC, and CJIS.
5. Project Execution & Post Go-Live Support
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings to align on scope, timelines, expectations, and risks.
  • Scope projects and prepare estimates.
  • Complete assigned tasks as defined in client Statements of Work (SOWs).
  • Build test, cutover, and rollback plans.
  • Provide post go-live support to stabilize and optimize client environments.
  • Complete a QC'd handoff to service.
6. Project Communication, Documentation & Automation
  • Send weekly client-facing project status updates and participate in check-in meetings.
  • Communicate proactively with clients and internal teams about changes, outages, and project impacts.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors and co-managed IT teams, and drive issues to resolution.
  • Maintain clear and thorough documentation of systems, configurations, and project processes.
  • Record daily time entries, expenses, and work notes in ConnectWise.
  • Participate in project debriefs and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Use PowerShell and other tools to automate repetitive work.

Direct Reports & Organizational Scope

The IT Project Engineer is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. Scope includes:

Project Range - Many small concurrent projects as well as large multi-site and multi-company programs.

Client Engagement - Kickoffs, weekly status updates, check-in meetings, and post go-live support.

Vendor Coordination - Working with ISPs, manufacturers, other vendors, and co-managed IT teams to resolve project issues.

Service Handoff - Documentation and QC'd transition of completed projects to Service.

Role Boundaries

The IT Project Engineer owns the technical delivery of assigned client projects, including scoping, estimates, planning, execution, post go-live support, documentation, and handoff to service.

This role does not own ongoing day-to-day support of client environments after handoff, which transitions to Service Delivery.

This role works closely with Project Management, Service Delivery, clients, and vendors to ensure projects are delivered on scope, on schedule, and ready to support.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • 4+ years in IT infrastructure, including at least 2 years delivering client projects at an MSP or in consulting.
  • Has led Microsoft 365, server, or network projects from start to finish.
  • MSP service-desk experience is a strong plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with clients and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
  • Self-driven and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on depth in Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, or Azure Virtual Desktop.
  • Fortinet, Meraki, or similar firewall, switching, and wireless platforms.
  • PowerShell scripting and automated deployments using IaC (Bicep, Terraform, etc.).
  • Azure infrastructure and migration tools.
  • Backup and disaster recovery platforms such as Datto, Veeam, and Axcient.
  • VoIP and business phone systems.
  • Line-of-business applications such as Sage, QuickBooks, and other SQL-backed applications.
  • ConnectWise or similar PSA platforms.
  • Service-desk experience that has built strong troubleshooting skills.
