Position Overview: We are seeking a part-time IT Policy/Legislative Specialist to support the development and analysis of cybersecurity policies, legislation, and compliance frameworks. The ideal candidate will work closely with government agencies and industry stakeholders to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices. This role is remote, but preference will be given to candidates based in North Carolina.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, analyze, and update cybersecurity policies and legislative materials to align with federal and industry standards.
  2. Draft executive-level briefing materials and reports on cybersecurity policy recommendations.
  3. Conduct research on legislative and regulatory developments impacting IT security.
  4. Collaborate with legal, compliance, and IT teams to interpret and implement policy changes.
  5. Provide subject matter expertise on governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) within cybersecurity frameworks.
  6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of government regulations, including NIST, FISMA, and other cybersecurity mandates.
  7. Assist in the creation of governance documents, best practices, and policy templates for internal and external use.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  2. 10+ years of experience working on executive-level policy briefings and cybersecurity legislation.
  3. Strong understanding of governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) in cybersecurity.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
  5. Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills with experience in drafting policy documentation.

Additional Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of NIST, FISMA, and other cybersecurity compliance frameworks.
  2. Experience collaborating with government agencies and industry partners on cybersecurity initiatives.
  3. Strong ability to translate technical cybersecurity concepts into accessible policy language.
  4. Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CRISC are a plus.
  5. Prior experience working in federal or state government policy roles preferred.
