Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory is seeking an IT Platform Administrator to deliver system administration and security across research and administrative services. The role requires hands-on management of Windows and Red Hat Linux servers, IAM, and enterprise services on-site in State College, PA, with potential hybrid options after acclimating.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of enterprise Windows/Linux administration.
• Willingness to obtain DoD 8140/8570 certification within one year.
• Experience with IAM, certificate management, RBAC and PKI.

Responsibilities

• Administer identity/access management, authentication services, and RBAC.
• Install, configure, secure, maintain, and upgrade Windows and Linux servers.
• Monitor security events, vulnerabilities, and compliance; coordinate incident response.
• Ensure system availability, performance, capacity; diagnose and resolve complex issues.
• Develop system architecture diagrams, DR docs, and security documentation.
• Provide advanced technical support and mentor staff; contribute to infrastructure projects.
• Collaborate with IT teams on infrastructure design aligned to research goals.
