Job Description:

Washington Metro Transit Authority is seeking a Network Operation Center Analyst I, Operations Technology staff to work within the Unified Digital Response (UDR). The incumbent must be highly technical and essential in this position to support Metro Integrated Command and Communication (MICC) and authority wide operations 24x7x365.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED.

Minimum Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in providing data center infrastructure engineering services, and specific hands-on technical support as a provider of data center services. Must include two (2) years of experience in large-scale, hybrid data centers.

Job Summary

The Information Technology Data Center Technician position supports all aspects of Washington Metro Area Transit Authority’s data center facilities in a 24/7; 365-day hybrid enterprise environment. The Technician monitors and maintains an accurate data center asset inventory; installs and configures network equipment, and cabling and coordinates data center systems intake/decommissioning.

Essential Functions
  • Install, remove, and address technical issues in hardware in data centers racks without disturbing other hardware and critical infrastructure on site.
  • Ensures data center assets are properly secured and managed in compliance with industry best practices
  • Implements data center access policies and procedures, data center usage protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Enforces standard data center operating procedures are being followed by all staff, visitors and vendors
  • Monitors the day-to-day operations of the IT Data Centers, to include providing oversight of data center infrastructure assets, services and environment
  • Monitors/inspects the data center access control system; audits data center access logs and interfaces with staff, visitors and vendors to monitor compliance with data center access standard operating procedures
  • Ensures the upkeep and maintenance of data center facilities by performing specific tasks, which include but not limited to cleaning, organizing, inspecting, and testing safety apparatus, checking deadlines for replacing fire extinguishers, and other fire suppression equipment and environmental control devices, and checking security alarms
  • Conducts asset burn-in, testing, and configuration
  • Coordinates work performed in the data centers by data center customers, vendors and IT staff, including work performed after hours
  • Ensures the overall quality of data center operations and services and compliance with all applicable Service Level Agreements (SLA)s
  • Monitors installations and upgrades of systems housed in the data center
  • Evaluates and recommends appropriate solutions to meet data center operational requirements
  • Supports technical groups and vendors performing maintenance and troubleshooting ensures significant interruptions and downtime are avoided
  • Gathers data center performance data and recommends performance improvements
  • Works extremely well in a high-pressure team environment with a strong focus on rapid response and real time issue resolution
  • Oversees and documents data center equipment intake and decommissioning processes
  • Monitors scheduled maintenance uses discretion to eliminate possible errors that may lead to critical events or operational impacts
  • Documents and maintains the data center environment to include topology diagrams, floor plans, architectural drawings, and develops related documents as needed
  • Performs diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifies the cause(s) of issues, and replaces faulty components with minimal customer and business disruption.
  • Oversees on-site work performed by contractors and is responsible for visiting current and future data centers as part of operations.
