Job summary

American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company is seeking a SAP Security Intern for an in-person role in Des Moines as part of the Launchpad Internship Program. You will help administer SAP security, manage access requests, and support governance and compliance across on-premise and cloud SAP platforms.

The Launchpad Internship is a 10–12 week in-person program featuring hands-on projects, mentorship, an Intern Hack-a-thon, and professional development activities with housing stipend.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and support SAP security roles, profiles, authorizations, and access controls in SAP S/4HANA environments.
• Administer user access requests, role assignments, and security changes following policy and standards.
• Support SAP Fiori security administration including catalogs, spaces, pages, and groups.
• Assist with SAP HANA database security, including user administration, privileges, auditing, and encryption.
• Support Governance, Risk and Compliance activities including Access Request Management, Access Risk Analysis, Emergency Access Management, and User Access Reviews.
• Perform SoD analysis and assist with remediation to reduce security risks.
• Complete tasks with guidance from mentor and department leader.
• Collaborate with interns across departments on cross-functional initiatives.
• Perform other related work as assigned.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The SAP Security Intern will participate in administering SAP security, managing user access, supporting governance and compliance activities, and maintaining secure SAP solutions across on-premise and cloud-based SAP platforms. The position partners with business and technical teams to ensure appropriate access controls, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence throughout the SAP landscape.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and support SAP security roles, profiles, authorizations, and access controls in SAP S/4HANA environments.
• Administer user access requests, role assignments, and security changes in accordance with company policies and security standards.
• Support SAP Fiori security administration, including business roles, catalogs, spaces, pages, groups, and tile security.
• Assist with SAP HANA database security, including user administration, privilege management, auditing, encryption, and security monitoring.
• Support SAP Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) activities, including Access Request Management, Access Risk Analysis, Emergency Access Management (Firefighter), and User Access Reviews.
• Perform Segregation of Duties (SoD) analysis and assist with remediation efforts to reduce security risks.
• Completes project and support tasks with guidance from mentor and department leader.
• Collaborates with fellow interns across departments on a strategic, cross-functional initiative that drives meaningful business impact.
• Performs other related work as assigned.

Education And/Or Experience

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Other preferred skills and experience: Exposure to SAP modules (such as FI/CO, MM, SD) through coursework or projects.
