Job summary

American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company invites a SAP Security Intern to join our Launchpad Internship Program in Des Moines. The 10–12 week, in-person experience offers hands-on SAP security work, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration.

You will design and administer SAP security, assist with governance and compliance activities, and gain exposure to SAP S/4HANA, Fiori, and HANA security. Housing stipend is provided as part of the program.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in IT, information security, CS, or related field.
• Exposure to SAP modules (FI/CO, MM, SD) through coursework or projects.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and support SAP security roles, profiles, authorizations, and access controls in SAP S/4HANA environments.
• Administer user access requests, role assignments, and security changes per company policies and security standards.
• Support SAP Fiori security administration, including business roles, catalogs, spaces, pages, groups, and tile security.
• Assist with SAP HANA database security, including user administration, privilege management, auditing, encryption, and security monitoring.
• Support SAP Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) activities, including Access Request Management, Access Risk Analysis, Emergency Access Management, and User Access Reviews.
• Perform Segregation of Duties (SoD) analysis and assist remediation to reduce security risks.
• Complete project and support tasks with mentor guidance; collaborate on cross-functional initiatives.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The SAP Security Intern will participate in administering SAP security, managing user access, supporting governance and compliance activities, and maintaining secure SAP solutions across on-premise and cloud-based SAP platforms. The position partners with business and technical teams to ensure appropriate access controls, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence throughout the SAP landscape.

LAUNCHPAD INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Launchpad Internship Program is a 10–12 week, in-person experience based in our downtown Des Moines office. Interns gain hands‑on experience, collaborate with professionals across the organization, and contribute to work that drives meaningful business outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design, develop, maintain, and support SAP security roles, profiles, authorizations, and access controls in SAP S/4HANA environments.

Administer user access requests, role assignments, and security changes in accordance with company policies and security standards.

Support SAP Fiori security administration, including business roles, catalogs, spaces, pages, groups, and tile security.

Assist with SAP HANA database security, including user administration, privilege management, auditing, encryption, and security monitoring.

Support SAP Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) activities, including Access Request Management, Access Risk Analysis, Emergency Access Management (Firefighter), and User Access Reviews.

Perform Segregation of Duties (SoD) analysis and assist with remediation efforts to reduce security risks.

Completes project and support tasks with guidance from mentor and department leader.

Collaborates with fellow interns across departments on a strategic, cross‑functional initiative that drives meaningful business impact.

Performs other related work as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field.

Other preferred skills and experience: Exposure to SAP modules (such as FI/CO, MM, SD) through coursework or projects.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Familiarity with SAP modules like FI (Financial Accounting), SD (Sales & Distribution), MM (Materials Management), etc.

Strong Mathematical skills and attention to detail.

Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external partners.

Ability to analyze system issues, propose solutions, and implement improvements.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

Ability to successfully prioritize requests and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced work environment.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
