Job summary

The Bowen Group, a GTSC company, seeks an IT Hardware Engineer to procure, configure, image, and deploy desktop, laptop, server, and peripheral hardware across multiple program locations in the Washington, DC area. Travel to sites (25-50%) and work in classified environments with Top Secret/SCI eligibility and SAP eligibility are required.

Candidate must have 3+ years in hardware engineering or field support, a related Bachelor's degree or equivalent, and experience with RMF/NIST security

Qualifications

• Familiarity with ICD 705 physical security standards for SCIF and SAP facility hardware requirements.

Responsibilities

• Procure, configure, image, and deploy desktops, laptops, servers, and peripheral hardware per standards.
• Perform hardware installation, upgrades, break/fix repair, and preventive maintenance.
• Maintain accurate hardware inventory, asset tags, and lifecycle/refresh docs.
• Support rack/stack, cabling, and physical installation in data centers, SCIF, and SAP environments.
• Diagnose hardware incidents and escalate to Systems Engineer/Endpoint Lead as needed.
• Coordinate with FSOs to ensure compliant hardware handling and disposal in classified environments.
• Support CDS hardware configuration for cross-domain security requirements.
• Assist with VTC endpoint hardware setup and AV configurations in multiple sites.
• Contribute to RMF/NIST authorization activities and ITSM tool deployment for enterprise NOC/SOC.

Job description

The Bowen Group, a GTSC company, seeks a skilled IT Hardware Engineer to support the procurement, configuration, deployment, and lifecycle management of desktop, laptop, server, and peripheral hardware across a network of technical communications facilities.

Location: Washington, DC metro area, with travel to program locations.

Security Clearance: Current Top Secret with SCI-eligibility and Special Access Programs (SAP) eligibility.

Travel: 25-50% travel to support activities across multiple program locations.

Certifications: ITIL Foundation certification, OR demonstrated familiarity with ITSM frameworks.

Salary Range: $125,000-155,000

Mission

This individual will work closely with the Systems Engineer/Endpoint Lead and site teams to ensure hardware readiness, compliance, and reliability across program locations, including classified and SAP environments.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of IT hardware engineering, deployment, or field support experience.

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

• Experience supporting classified or federal systems environments.

• Experience supporting Special Access Program (SAP) facilities, systems, or environments.

• Hands-on experience with desktop/laptop imaging, hardware break/fix, and asset lifecycle management.

• Ability to lift/move IT equipment and perform physical installation tasks as needed.

• Familiarity with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST SP 800-37/800-53 security authorization processes as they apply to classified hardware environments.

• Familiarity with ICD 705 physical security standards as they apply to SCIF and SAP facility hardware requirements, including greenfield buildout environments.

Nice to Have:

• Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Dell/HP hardware certifications).

• Experience with endpoint management and imaging platforms (e.g., SCCM, MECM).

• ITIL Foundation certification, OR demonstrated familiarity with ITSM frameworks, including experience with enterprise ticketing and asset management platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, Remedy).

Primary duties include:

• Procure, configure, image, and deploy desktops, laptops, servers, and peripheral hardware in accordance with established standards.

• Perform hardware installation, upgrades, break/fix repair, and preventive maintenance across facility locations.

• Maintain accurate hardware inventory, asset tags, and lifecycle/refresh documentation.

• Support rack and stack, cabling, and physical installation of hardware in data center, SCIF, and SAP facility environments.

• Diagnose and resolve hardware-related incidents, escalating complex systems issues to the Systems Engineer/Endpoint Lead as needed.

• Coordinate with facility security officers (FSOs) to ensure hardware handling, transport, and disposal comply with classified and SAP environment requirements.

• Support hardware configuration and integration for cross-domain solutions (CDS), ensuring equipment meets physical and logical security requirements for approved cross-domain transfer capability

• Support VTC endpoint hardware setup and peripheral integration for classified and unclassified conference rooms across all sites, including multi-tier AV configurations.

• Assist with hardware compliance documentation to support RMF/NIST SP 800-37/800-53 authorization activities.

• Support deployment and integration of IT service management (ITSM) toolsets, including ticketing and asset management platforms, as part of the enterprise NOC/SOC operations model.

Current Top Secret clearance with SCI-eligibility and SAP-eligibility are required for this position. Only applicants with a current security clearance will be considered.
