Job summary

NorthStar Energy Services is hiring an IT Field Technician to support hardware, network, and end-user technology needs across field operations. This role can be based out of the Houston-area Channelview office or Midland, TX, with travel to West Texas for 2–3 week stretches as project needs require.

You will install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair desktops, laptops, and peripherals; set up network equipment; manage asset inventory; and assist onboarding of field employees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; IT certification preferred.
• 1–3 years of hands-on IT support or field technician experience.
• Windows OS, Active Directory, and basic networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS) knowledge.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform field tasks.
• Willingness to travel and stay on-site for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices at job sites and offices.
• Set up and maintain network equipment at field sites.
• Rack and cable network/server equipment in the field.
• Respond to IT tickets remotely and on-site.
• Image and deploy new equipment; track assets.
• Assist onboarding/offboarding of field employees.
• Diagnose connectivity issues (Wi‑Fi, VPN, wired) at remote sites.
• Coordinate with vendors for orders, repairs, warranties.
• Perform site IT audits and maintain records in ticketing system.
• Travel to remote job sites as needed, including West Texas.

About This Role

NorthStar Energy Services is hiring an IT Field Technician to support hardware, network, and end-user technology needs across our field operations. This role can be based out of either our Houston-area (Channelview) office or our Midland, TX location. Candidates based in Houston (Channelview) must be willing to travel to and work in West Texas for stretches of 2–3 weeks at a time as project needs require.

What You\'ll Do

• Install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and peripherals at job sites and offices
• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot network equipment (switches, routers, access points, structured cabling) at field/job sites
• Rack, stack, and cable network and server equipment in the field as needed
• Respond to and resolve IT support tickets remotely and on-site in a timely manner
• Image, configure, and deploy new equipment; maintain accurate asset inventory and tracking
• Support onboarding/offboarding of field employees (account setup, hardware provisioning, access/badge coordination)
• Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues (Wi-Fi, VPN, hardwired) at remote sites
• Coordinate with vendors (Dell, Insight, ISPs, etc.) on equipment orders, repairs, and warranty service
• Perform routine site IT audits — inventory checks, cable management, equipment condition
• Document all work performed and maintain accurate records in the ticketing system
• Travel to remote job sites as needed, including extended stays in West Texas

What You\'ll Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate\'s degree or IT certification (A+, Network+) preferred
• 1–3 years of hands-on IT support or field technician experience
• Working knowledge of Windows OS, Active Directory, and basic networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS)
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (climbing, kneeling, working in confined or outdoor spaces)
• Comfortable working in varying field/industrial site conditions, including heat and remote locations
• Valid driver\'s license with a clean driving record; ability to travel by vehicle or air as needed
• Willingness to travel and stay on-site for extended periods (2–3 weeks at a time for Houston/Channelview-based candidates working West Texas assignments)
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
