emergiTEL is seeking an IT Audit Director with a deep focus on Cyber, AI, and Cloud for a permanent leadership role in the Mortgage Finance sector. Location options include Washington, DC or Reston, VA, United States.

The role leads audits across AI, cybersecurity, resiliency, and cloud environments, coaching staff and shaping audit plans while engaging with business partners to drive risk-aware decisions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in IT Audit, IT Risk Management, or Information Security.
• Expert knowledge of cybersecurity, AI, or cloud infrastructure technologies (AWS).
• Experience coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback to audit staff.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with technical experts.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee audits in AI, cybersecurity, resiliency, and cloud infrastructure environments.
• Identify risks and adjust audit plans based on potential impact.
• Participate in annual planning to develop audit plans for current and emerging IT risks.
• Provide day-to-day project management oversight of IT Auditors including coaching and reviews.
• Develop innovative testing approaches and ensure high-quality audit execution.
• Conduct hands-on testing of highly complex topics with minimal supervision.
• Share viewpoints on top risks including AI, cybersecurity, and resiliency.
• Mentor junior staff in analytics and automation practices while executing analytics.
• Build relationships with business partners and provide advisory support to managers and staff.

Job Description

In this compelling leadership position, you will lead efforts examining and analyzing every aspect of the client’s IT environment. Focused on the cutting‑edge cloud services used by the client, audits cover a broad range of technologies, providing a challenging environment with opportunities for professional growth.

Within IT Audit, the infrastructure team focuses on evaluating complex IT processes, systems, and services. Audits focus on highly visible topics such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, IT Governance, resiliency, and the management of operating systems and platforms. In this position, you will take ownership of audits and reviews, setting direction and remaining hands‑on throughout planning, execution, and reporting. You will also play a key role in coaching and mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply specialized technical expertise to direct and oversee audits in complex areas such as AI, cybersecurity, resiliency, and cloud infrastructure environments.
• Identify risks and assess their potential impact on the organization to develop and adjust audit plans and determine areas requiring additional analysis.
• Participate in annual planning activities to develop audit plans focused on current and emerging IT risks.
• Provide day-to-day project management oversight of IT Auditors, including guidance, coaching, work reviews, and direction setting.
• Develop innovative testing approaches and ensure high-quality audit execution.
• Conduct hands‑on testing of highly complex technical topics with minimal supervision and a focus on high-risk areas.
• Create regular points of view regarding top risks, including AI, cybersecurity, and resiliency.
• Inspire team members to innovate new ways of working to achieve results and generate meaningful insights.
• Act as a subject matter expert in technical domains and coach junior staff.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with business partners.
• Share Internal Audit expertise and provide advisory support to managers and staff.
• Develop innovative methods for leveraging data analytics, automation, and AI during audit testing.
• Mentor junior staff in analytics and automation practices while executing analytics independently.
• Required Experience and Skills8+ years of experience in IT Audit, IT Risk Management, or Information Security.
• Expert knowledge of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, or cloud infrastructure technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Experience coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback to audit staff.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage technical experts effectively.
• Strong critical thinking and analytical capabilities.
• Data Analytics SkillsStrong ability to identify, design, and implement visualizations for diverse datasets.
• Experience using visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, or Seaborn.
• Programming experience with analytics‑focused technologies including Python, SciPy, NumPy, and/or PySpark.
• AI ExperienceExperience using AI solutions to improve effectiveness and efficiency during audit execution.
• Hands‑on experience auditing AI solutions and assessing related risks.
• Knowledge of agentic AI architectures and associated risks.
• Curiosity and adaptability in learning and responsibly applying emerging technologies, including AI, to transform ways of working.
• Preferred Qualifications10+ years of experience in IT Audit, IT Risk Management, or Information Security.
• 5+ years of direct IT Audit experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Master’s degree and/or MBA in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Mathematics, or a related field preferred.
