Job Title: IT Application Development – Journey (Olympia)
Location: Olympia, WA (This position is remote)

Closes: October 20th, 2025

Salary: $7,010.00 - $9,429.00 Monthly

The DCYF Application Development group designs and maintains scalable applications that support financial operations, human resources, licensing, case management, reporting, and other core business needs. In this role, you will work on the Social Service Payment System (SSPS), a mainframe system with a .NET front end that processes provider payments. This position offers the chance to maintain and enhance a large, mission-critical application while also contributing to rebuilding older systems and developing new solutions that directly support children, youth, and families across Washington State.

The Opportunity:

  • Designs and develops of interfaces with business partners.
  • Uses software development methods and tools to integrate and support custom-off-the-shelf (COTS) software and services.
  • Collaborates with DevOps teams to ensure regular, controlled deployment of updates to existing database driven applications.
  • Decomposes high-level business and user requirements into functional requirements.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex application, interface and data related issues.
  • Ensures security and privacy requirements are met.
  • Monitors health and function of applications, reacts and responds to problems.
  • Resolves incidents for stakeholders, customers, and partners by pragmatically working through the incident's possible origins until a cause is identified and mitigated or resolved.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or closely allied field including 9 semester or 15 quarter hours of computer science courses AND Four years of progressively more complex problem solving as a developer designing, developing or maintaining large-scale applications with mission critical business functions using .NET C#, SQL Server, SQL Reporting Services, Transact SQL, Web based programming, and supporting tools.

OR

Six years of progressively more complex problem-solving as a developer designing, developing or maintaining large-scale applications with mission-critical business functions using .NET C#, SQL Server, SQL Reporting Services, Transact SQL, Web-based programming, and supporting tools.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of application development principles, concepts, technologies, current industry standards and the Microsoft technology stack, including Windows, Visual Studio, IIS, .NET C#, SQL, TFS, SharePoint, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Agile values and principles as they apply to application development.
  • Working knowledge of Scrum development methodologies, artifacts and traditions.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps concepts.

In addition to the requirements above, our ideal candidate will possess some or all the following.

  • Experience in SCRUM, Agile, and iterative development processes.
  • Agile Training or Certification.
  • .NET Developer training or certification.
