The Ohio State University’s Stone Laboratory seeks a Facilities & Maintenance Lead to manage and perform hands-on facilities operations, including repairs, vendor coordination, and equipment support on South Bass and Gibraltar Islands. The role supports research staff, faculty, and students in a dynamic island laboratory setting.

Responsibilities include leading repairs, coordinating external vendors, maintaining the lab fleet, and ensuring safe, reliable facilities.

Qualifications

Minimum of 4 years of experience in maintenance repairs and troubleshooting of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC.
Enrollment in a random drug screening program.
Knowledge of the Put-In-Bay area and Lake Erie.
Outstanding customer service skills.
Ability to work with a diverse population.
Successful completion of background check.

Responsibilities

Lead and perform hands-on duties related to facilities operations for Stone Laboratory, including maintenance and repairs of facilities and grounds.
Manage procurement requests and coordinate external vendors for building and boat dock repairs.
Oversee maintenance of Stone Lab fleet of vehicles and ensure annual inspections.
Coordinate with faculty, staff, and students to support research needs and equipment modifications where feasible.
Develop knowledge base of facilities and utility information; provide expert advice to management.
May serve as boat captain for Stone Lab activities as needed and supervise seasonal operations staff.
