Summary
Under general supervision, performs skilled trades work in the systematic repair, replacement, and/or redesign of the City's irrigation systems.
Essential Job Functions
- Design, maintain, layout, and install irrigation systems by considering water conservation, existing and proposed landscaping capacity, water flow rates, and time sequencing of existing systems.
- Repair and replace pumps, main feeder and lateral lines, PVC pipes, irrigation heads, radio-controlled valves and controls, and electronically controlled water sensors.
- Replace low voltage wiring.
- Develop watering schedules for irrigation systems.
- Oversee the irrigation system preventative maintenance program.
- Monitor grounds during special events to ensure the protection of systems.
- Report grounds conditions and water or turf losses due to system malfunctions.
- Control grounds irrigation water utilization to ensure water conservation.
- Meet with water resource agencies and advise management on the development of grounds water conservation policies.
- Develop emergency plans for water and irrigation utilization.
- Recommend new irrigation projects.
- Review contractor change orders to ensure design compatibility with installation concepts and the existing grounds master plan.
- Monitor contractor work.
- Keep abreast of current trends in irrigation systems by reviewing publications and attending relevant seminars or conferences.
