Summary

Under general supervision, performs skilled trades work in the systematic repair, replacement, and/or redesign of the City's irrigation systems.

Essential Job Functions

1. Design, maintain, layout, and install irrigation systems by considering water conservation, existing and proposed landscaping capacity, water flow rates, and time sequencing of existing systems.
2. Repair and replace pumps, main feeder and lateral lines, PVC pipes, irrigation heads, radio-controlled valves and controls, and electronically controlled water sensors.
3. Replace low voltage wiring.
4. Develop watering schedules for irrigation systems.
5. Oversee the irrigation system preventative maintenance program.
6. Monitor grounds during special events to ensure the protection of systems.
7. Report grounds conditions and water or turf losses due to system malfunctions.
8. Control grounds irrigation water utilization to ensure water conservation.
9. Meet with water resource agencies and advise management on the development of grounds water conservation policies.
10. Develop emergency plans for water and irrigation utilization.
11. Recommend new irrigation projects.
12. Review contractor change orders to ensure design compatibility with installation concepts and the existing grounds master plan.
13. Monitor contractor work.
14. Keep abreast of current trends in irrigation systems by reviewing publications and attending relevant seminars or conferences.
