Job summary

Bass Pro Shops is seeking a full-time Irrigation Technician to join the Golf Course Agronomy Team at Big Cedar Lodge. You will operate, repair, and maintain all aspects of the golf irrigation system, report issues, and implement preventive maintenance on pumphouses and transfer pumps.

The role requires a High School diploma, valid driver’s license, and comfort with outdoor conditions. Rain Bird Cirrus Pro knowledge is a plus, with potential training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, repair and maintain golf irrigation system components.
  • Perform weekly preventive maintenance on pumphouses and transfer pumps.
  • Set and adjust watering programs for efficient irrigation.
  • Inventory irrigation parts and tools to minimize downtime.
  • Report irrigation issues to the Superintendent and keep a repair log.
  • Winterize and blow out irrigation system including lines and valves.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Big Cedar is looking for a full-time Irrigation Technician to work on our newly opened Cliffhangers Golf Course. Qualified candidates will work in a team environment and be highly focused on providing superior service. This position is a key member of the Golf Course Agronomy Team and will be responsible for operating, adjusting, repairing and providing preventative maintenance to all aspects of a golf course irrigation system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Work with and report to the Assistant Superintendents on identifying irrigation issues
  • Repair irrigation heads in a timely manner
  • Performs weekly preventive maintenance on the irrigation system including the pumphouses and transfer pump.
  • Assist with setting/adjusting watering programs
  • Properly inventory and stock all irrigation parts and tools to minimize down time.
  • Reports and prioritizes any irrigation breaks immediately to the Assistant Superintendents or Superintendent and maintains a daily log of completed repairs.
  • Conducts monthly audit of all sprinkler heads on the entire golf facility.
  • Routinely inspects irrigation system components to ensure the system is operating properly.
  • Responsible for winterization and blowout of irrigation system, including all water lines, valves and pump stations
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Responsible for keeping all drain inlets and valve boxes free of debris and overgrowth
  • Performs other duties as required, such as helping with granular applications on greens and operating mowers
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • A 2-4/yr turf degree or certificate is preferred but not required.
  • Technical understanding of low voltage electrical systems.
  • Rainbird Certificate preferred but not required. (Company will assist in training and education to candidate for proper certification of Cirrus Pro)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
  • Familiarity with Rainbird Cirrus Pro 2 a plus
  • Must be organized, safety conscious, excel in time management skills, and work with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Prior golf course maintenance andirrigationexperience is a major plus
  • Must be able to multi-task, solve problems, and prioritize well.
  • Being capable of working in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to variable and adverse weather conditions
  • A strong work ethic with a desire to learn, improve, and lead by example
  • Knowledge and experience with product applications
  • Ability to do basic math and understand calculations
  • Comprehension and ability to discern information from product labels
  • Calibration experience and understanding preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Regularly walks, stands, and lifts up to 50 lbs.

Occasionally sits and does computer work.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT

Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
