Job summary

Jobtailor in Milpitas, CA is hiring an irrigation Technician to perform irrigation work at specified sites under supervision. You will read irrigation plans, repair pipes up to 3" and install sprinkler systems, ensuring proper sprinkler positioning and flow control.

Expect to work on-site with a team of 1-2 laborers and maintain equipment and vehicle. Requirements include 3–5 years in irrigation or equivalent, a valid CA driver license, certification, knowledge of landscape maintenance, wiring

Qualifications

• 3–5 years experience in irrigation or equivalent education/experience.
• Valid California Driver License with clean DMV record.
• Must possess or obtain certification.
• Knowledge of landscape maintenance techniques and tools.
• Detailed knowledge of irrigation wiring, troubleshooting and fault locating.
• Understanding of PVC pipe classes and scheduling.
• Ability to select appropriate sprinkler nozzles for given areas.
• Basic understanding of electrical/electronic circuitry and controller repairs.
• Ability to operate/turn on controllers, including single-station control.
• Familiarity with Rain Master remote control units.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with irrigation ID skills and equipment use.
• Advanced sprinkler positioning and adjustment ability.
• Ability to recognize plant stress signs.

Responsibilities

• Under limited supervision, performs irrigation work at specific job sites.
• Read and understand irrigation plans and install/repair systems up to 3" pipes.
• Direct/lead 1–2 laborers and instruct technicians as needed.
• Unloads/loads vehicle and keeps equipment clean and organized.
• Turn controllers on/off and operate a single station from the controller.
• Ensure proper flow control and sprinkler positioning relative to grade, obstacles, and windows.
• Perform safe use of drills, trenchers, and related tools.
• Maintain knowledge of wiring and fault locations; troubleshoot controllers.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Under limited supervision, performs irrigation work at specific job sites.
• Consistently shows up for work on time at the assigned location.
• If unable to work, notifies the Supervisor immediately.
• Shows up for work fully dressed in appropriate uniform including approved footwear.
• Unloads the vehicle after work and loads it for next day of work; maintains vehicle by keeping it clean and organized.
• May direct/lead the work of 1-2 laborers and instructs other technicians on work to be performed.
• Reads and understands irrigation plans.
• Repairs all types of pipe including copper and asbestos cement, installs and repairs various sprinkler systems and irrigation valves, and performs main line repairs up to and including 3" pipes.
• Positions sprinklers appropriately and correctly in relation to grade, curbs, walls, and windows.
• Disassembles, troubleshoots, and repairs solenoid operated irrigation control valves.
• Demonstrates ability to make proper flow control adjustments.
• Turns controllers on and off and manually operates a single station from the controller.
• Performs work and uses tools and equipment in a proper and safe manner (drills, jackhammers, trenchers, tampers).

Requirements

• 3-5 years experience in irrigation or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience providing the knowledge, abilities, and skills cited above.
• Valid California Driver License with a clean DMV record is required.
• Must possess or become Certified.
• Knowledge of landscape and maintenance techniques methods and tools.
• Complete knowledge of irrigation wiring, wire troubleshooting and wire fault locating.
• Pipe - Recognizes and understands the applications and differences between class and schedule rated PVC pipe.
• Sprinkler and nozzle selection - Demonstrates the ability to select the proper sprinkler nozzle for a given area that is compatible with the equipment in use.
• Has a basic understanding of electrical and electronic circuitry, and demonstrates the ability to perform minor controller repairs.
• Demonstrates the ability to turn controllers on and off.
• Knows how to manually operate a single station from the controller, and how to use a Rain Master remote control unit.
• Ability to follow verbal instructions from supervisor and management.
• Basic Computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office.
• Proficiency of all Irrigation ID skills, knowledge, and equipment use.
• Advanced understanding of sprinkler positioning and adjustments.
• Recognition and understanding of the basic signs of plant stress.
