Full Job Description

The Gardeners Landscape is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Irrigation Technician to oversee and manage irrigation installations and maintenance for residential and commercial clients. This is a hands-on, field position requiring extensive knowledge of irrigation systems, including troubleshooting, repair, and installation. You will be responsible for managing crews, ensuring high-quality work, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

The Gardeners Landscape is a premier landscape contracting firm with over 35 years of experience, specializing in creating stunning outdoor living spaces throughout Metro West Boston, Southeastern Massachusetts, the South Shore, and Cape Cod. We offer comprehensive design, build, and maintenance services for both commercial and residential properties, with a strong focus on irrigation, landscape lighting, lawn care, and snow removal. As a progressive, turn-key operation, we are dedicated to staying at the forefront of green trends and irrigation standards, while maintaining strong relationships with independent homeowners, contractors, municipalities, and commercial clients.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Crew Management: Oversee daily operations of irrigation crews, including managing trucks, tools, machines, and team members to ensure efficiency and quality of work.
2. Installation & Maintenance: Lead and assist with irrigation installations and troubleshooting for various types of systems, including residential and commercial projects.
3. Plan Interpretation: Read and interpret landscape and irrigation plans to guide the team in proper installation and maintenance practices.
4. Problem-Solving: Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve irrigation system issues, ensuring optimal performance of conventional and 2-wire systems.
5. Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing safety standards, inspecting job sites, and adhering to legal and organizational regulations.
6. Estimating & Bidding: Assist with project planning, including calculating labor, equipment, material, and overhead costs for current and future projects.
7. Material Management: Ensure necessary materials and parts are available to keep crews and machinery operating efficiently.
8. Training & Development: Coach and mentor crew members, helping them to develop their skills and improve job performance.
9. Professional Development: Stay updated on industry trends and best practices by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in relevant trade shows and seminars.

The ideal candidate should possess:

1. Strong people management skills, with experience overseeing crews and maintaining a positive, productive work environment.
2. Proficiency in site development, planning, and estimating for irrigation projects.
3. Expertise in low voltage electrical systems, with a deep understanding of conventional and 2-wire irrigation systems.
4. Ability to operate and maintain irrigation equipment and tools efficiently.
5. Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that all projects meet high-quality standards.
6. Ability to read and interpret landscape and irrigation plans.
7. Experience working with vendors and managing material orders.
8. Strong understanding of basic safety protocols and the ability to enforce a safe work environment.

Seasonal Work Schedule: This role is available from March to November, with potential for rehire each season.
