Job summary

City of Wichita is seeking a skilled irrigation technician to perform repairs, install components, and maintain irrigation systems across city facilities. This role requires knowledge of irrigation controllers, safety, and the ability to lift up to 150 lbs with assistance.

The position days are Monday–Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm, with responsibilities including testing systems, installing nozzles, valves, drains, pipes, and performing backflow device work and snow removal.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a skilled worker in irrigation repair work or trade school training.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL within six months of hire.
• Ability to obtain Class A CDL within six months of hire; foreign nationals may require credentials from home country.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Conduct irrigation systems testing.
• Install irrigation nozzles, valves, drains and pipe.
• Make repairs to irrigation systems.
• Remove snow from walks.
• Supervise lower-level part-time seasonal employees.
• Test, install, and repair backflow prevention devices.

Job description

This is irrigation work conducting general irrigation repairs, installation of irrigation equipment, stocking supplies in work truck and some grounds keeping duties.

The days and hours for this position:

Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm

• Conducting irrigation systems testing.
• Install irrigation nozzles, valves, drains and pipe.
• Make repairs to irrigation systems.
• Removes snow from walks.
• Supervises lower-level part-time seasonal employees.
• Tests, installs, and repairs backflow prevention devices.
• Assist with prescribed burns.

• Knowledge of the standard tools, equipment materials, methods and practices used in irrigation and grounds maintenance work.
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the work.
• Working knowledge of the irrigation systems and irrigations controllers.
• Skills in the use of standard hand and power equipment used perform irrigation tasks.
• Ability to push and/or pull and operate standard irrigation equipment over rough terrains.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 150 lbs. with the assistance of another person.
• Be able to secure a Class "A" CDL driver's license within six months of hire.
• Be able to secure a City of Wichita Backflow Prevention Installer/Tester Technicians Certificate within six months of hire.

Required Experience and Training

• Two years of experience as a skilled worker in irrigation repair work or applicable trade school training.
• A valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial driver's license is required within six (6) months of hire. If you are a Canadian or Mexican citizen, you will be required to have or obtain a CDL from your home country.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.

Preferred Experience and Training

• A valid Class A Commercial driver's license.
