Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Irrigation Systems Engineer to support large-scale agricultural projects in Upington, Northern Cape. You will design, install, and optimize drip, pivot and micro-sprinkler systems, leveraging sensors, SCADA, and soil moisture data.

You will assess client needs, manage installations, schedule irrigation plans, troubleshoot hardware, and train farm staff. Travel to project sites will be required, and you will work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver efficient

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with focus on water management or irrigation.
• Minimum 5 years designing and managing agricultural irrigation systems.
• Experience with hydraulics, soil-plant-water relationships and water tech.

Responsibilities

• Design efficient irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, pivot) tailored to crops and water availability.
• Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for new projects.
• Oversee installation/commissioning and ensure design adherence.
• Optimize systems for water use efficiency, energy conservation, and uniform distribution.
• Develop irrigation scheduling strategies using weather and soil data.
• Troubleshoot irrigation components, pumps, and controllers.
• Provide training and support to farm staff on system management.
• Stay updated on new irrigation tech and best practices.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources; ensure regulatory compliance.
