What you’ll do:

The Irrigation Operator is responsible for the reliable operation and maintenance of irrigation systems across Santos GLNG sites, predominantly in the Santos GLNG Fairview field, ensuring the beneficial use of coal seam water with minimal impact on soils and ecosystems.

This role requires proactive problem-solving, effective communication with staff and contractors, and the ability to work remotely on a two weeks on, two weeks off (15/13) rostered schedule. It also involves supporting agronomic and soil health management of irrigated plantations and pastures, as well as contributing to bushfire response efforts.

This position plays a vital role in sustaining the water and land management practices that underpin Santos’ special operating license and associated cost benefits.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Apply knowledge and skills in pressurized irrigation systems to deliver reliable irrigation of treated CS Water within strict environmental compliance conditions
  • Reporting to the Team Leaders Irrigation, the primary objective of this position is to operate and maintain the Santos GLNG Irrigation infrastructure which in a Broad description includes, Irrigation Pump Stations, Drip Irrigation, Centre Pivot Irrigation, and a central control system
  • To conduct and organize reactive and planned maintenance and repairs of irrigation equipment to ensure high levels of irrigation reliability.
  • Ensure that we meet the main objective in managing, operating, maintaining our Irrigation infrastructure, Land Management, associated Infrastructure and Machinery
  • After hrs assistance and support through weekends of urgent issues for the regional agricultural operations including bush fire response.
  • Provision specialist skills and knowledge with respect to centre pivot and drip irrigation systems. Including scheduling.
  • Maintain positive collaboration with Santos field teams while ensuring full compliance with the Santos Management System (SMS) and Corporate Governance and Safety requirements.
What you’ll bring:

Essential experience required for this position includes:

  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent relevant work/industry experience (min 2 yrs) in irrigation or related technical area
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in the maintenance and operation of pressurised irrigation systems and demonstrated experience operating and maintaining agricultural type plant and equipment
  • Evidence of working in a structured workplace with a strong emphasis on safety.
  • A competent level of Computer skills. Your strategic view, collaborative nature and ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders will aid in your success in this role.

Desired experience for this position includes:

  • Design and installation of pressurised irrigation systems
  • Maintenance and operation of control systems for pump stations and irrigation systems
  • Soil and Pasture management experience

Ideally, you will hold Qualifications within the industry related to Certification diploma or trade based, Irrigation and / or agronomy
