Denver Parks & Recreation is seeking a full-time Irrigation Construction Technician to support operations within Denver’s Water Conservation team. This position will be responsible for installing, renovating, and repairing irrigation systems for park properties, including optimizing irrigation systems to achieve the highest level of efficiency.
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $23.33 – $29.16/hour. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Friday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Denver Parks and Recreation is seeking a full-time Irrigation Construction Technician to support operations within Water Conservation. To see a map of the parks within this district, please see here. The typical work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m., but some weekend work will be required.

As a Water Conservation Irrigation Construction Technician, you will be responsible for installing, renovating, and repairing irrigation systems for park properties, including optimizing irrigation systems to achieve the highest level of efficiency.
Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Perform semi-skilled, unlicensed trades work in multiple areas including irrigation system installation, mechanical maintenance, tool machinery, equipment maintenance, minor electrical, minor plumbing, painting, etc.
Read irrigation drawings and perform construction, maintenance/repair, and replacement of complete parks irrigation systems
Inspect existing irrigation infrastructure and equipment to identify construction, maintenance, and repair needs including estimating materials, labor, time, and cost of repairs
Complete utility locates for projects
Perform all related duties to irrigation construction including inspection, site prep, trenching, wiring, hand digging, lateral and mainline installation, adjustments, and project site restoration
Operate and maintain lightweight vehicles and equipment
Maintain irrigation and sprinkler systems and all their related components
Assist in additional special projects such as emergency and prioritized repairs and replacements
Participate in snow removal and other park maintenance duties as needed

We are looking for a reliable and career-oriented construction professional who is seeking an opportunity to showcase their skills and flourish both independently and alongside a group of collaborative professionals. Additionally, our ideal candidate will have:
Experience working with people of differing backgrounds and skill levels to plan, design, estimate, and construct irrigation systems
Experience troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, programming, and installing a variety of irrigation systems and parts. Advanced troubleshooting tactics are a plus!
Toro Sentinel Central Control System Installation and troubleshooting experience preferred, but not required

Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate
Experience: One (1) year of experience maintaining and repairing commercial, agricultural, or related irrigation systems
Licensures/Certification(s): Requires a valid Driver\'s License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
