Position Summary

Assist skilled craftsperson(s) by performing supportive duties as directed and work under immediate supervision. Responsibilities and requirements vary depending on experience and job step.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Learn to read specifications or blueprints to determine material requirements.
2. Assist in fabricating metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
3. Help unload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting; assist with lifting steel beams, girders, or columns into place using cranes or signaling equipment.
4. Verify alignment of structural steel members using appropriate tools.
5. Assist with cutting, bending, or welding steel pieces using appropriate equipment.
6. Assemble hoisting equipment or riggings to move heavy materials.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with relevant experience.
• Knowledge of safe tool use and construction practices.
• Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
• Field experience in the craft discipline.

Requirements:

• Ability to move around construction sites, including standing, walking, reaching, and crawling.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
• Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and work at heights.
• Lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
• Possess required tools and possibly a U.S. Driver License.
• Follow safety rules and pass drug, alcohol, and medical tests.
