Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Learn to read specifications or blueprints to determine material requirements.
- Assist in fabricating metal parts such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
- Help unload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting; operate cranes or signal operators to lift and position structural steel members.
- Verify alignment of steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
- Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Assemble hoisting equipment or riggings to move heavy materials.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; previous experience preferred.
- Knowledge and skills relevant to the position.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions and communicate effectively.
- Field experience in craft discipline.
- Knowledge of safe use of tools and layout equipment.
Requirements
- Ability to move about construction sites, including standing, walking, reaching, and crawling.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
- Use ladders, scaffolds, and mechanical platforms to access work areas.
- Work in confined, cluttered, and uneven environments.
- Lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Use required tools and observe safety rules.
- Pass drug and alcohol testing and be fit for duty.
