Position Summary
Ironworkers are responsible for the layout, installation, assembly, and steel erection components in accordance with blueprint plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of material required.
- Fabricate metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
- Unload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting; hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place, using cranes or signaling hoisting equipment operators.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
- Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.
- Force structural steel members into final positions, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools.
- Pull, push, or pries structural steel members into approximate positions for bolting into place.
- Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place.
- Assemble hoisting equipment or riggings, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks, to move heavy equipment or materials.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with experience in the field or a related area.
- Working knowledge and skills for the position.
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; effective communication with management/supervision.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.
Requirements
- Constant movement about a construction/industrial site; ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Work in outdoor weather conditions, sometimes irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays.
- Use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, scaffolds; climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Work in confined, cluttered, and uneven spaces.
- Complete tasks in noisy and dusty environments.
- Move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Possess required tools; may require a US driver’s license.
- Observe safety and project rules; pass drug, alcohol, medical, and background checks.
