Job summary

Crossland Construction seeks skilled ironworker to erect and align structural steel, install decking, and coordinate with crane operations on outdoor projects.

The role requires travel, teamwork, and adherence to safety policies; candidates will read blueprints and perform welding, bolting, and fastening as needed.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and installation details.
• Drug screen, physical and criminal background check required.
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and work at heights over 15 feet; travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
• Install rigging from steel members to hoist hooks; may certify as Rigger.
• Signal crane operators to lift and place steel members as a certified signal person.
• Guide members from ladders, scaffolds, or lifts to position them accurately.
• Bolt, weld, cut, and modify steel members as needed.
• Align holes and verify vertical/horizontal alignment using plumb bobs and levels.
• Inspect tools, equipment, and rigging; ensure safe operating conditions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; follow safety procedures.
• Work with other trades to maintain project schedules; travel as needed.

Job description

Erect, position, align, and secure structural steel components, including beams, columns, joists, decking, and other metal materials.

Install miscellaneous metals such as stairs, handrails, guardrails, ladders, and other fabricated steel components.

Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and installation details.

Perform welding, cutting, grinding, bolting, and fastening of structural steel and metal components.

Assist with rigging, signaling, and directing crane operations for the safe lifting and placement of materials.

Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other construction-related equipment safely and efficiently.

Verify proper alignment, elevation, and placement of steel components according to project specifications.

Install and secure metal decking and other related building components as required.

Work from aerial lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms while following fall protection requirements.

Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, and other trades to maintain project schedules and productivity.

Inspect tools, equipment, rigging, and materials to ensure safe operating conditions.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Follow company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and jobsite-specific safety procedures.

Assist with material handling, unloading, staging, and general construction activities as needed.

Perform additional duties as assigned by field supervision.

About the Role

We are looking for highly motivatedcandidates. This position can be physically demanding at times andcandidates must be willing to travel. If you're a hard worker, love being outdoors, and enjoy a team atmosphere and camaraderie, this is the job for you!

Performs any combination of the following duties on construction projects to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks; working as a member of a crew.Drug screen, physical and criminal background check is required of successful candidates.

• Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members
• Installs rigging from the steel members to the hook of the hoist, sling chain, cable or rope. By becoming a certified Rigger
• Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member, by becoming a certified signal person.
• Guides member using tag line (rope) or by hands from a ladder, scaffold or a mechanical lift in order to guide it into position.
• Pulls, pushes, or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
• Forces members into final position, using spud wrenches, bull pins, drift pins and other hand tools.
• Aligns bolt holes in member with corresponding holes in previously member by driving drift pins or handle of a spud wrench through holes.
• Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members, using plumb bob, hand level, laser plumb level or a surveying transit.
• Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place.
• Cuts and welds steel members to make alterations, using the proper AISC welding equipment.
• May specialize in erecting or repairing specific types of structures.
• Work is usually performed with other workers.
• Physical demands of this position include lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally; 40-50 pounds frequently along with frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching and handling, and occasional fingering and feeling. Employee must have the ability to work comfortably at heights above 15 feet, work outdoors and travel as needed.
