MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Gaelic Linguist performs quality control tasks and on-demand translation tasks on assigned accounts/projects; ensures that work is performed to a high standard within deadlines and quality levels; and ensures adherence to the Language Process by the project team.

MAIN DUTIES
  1. The following is a non-exhaustive list of responsibilities and areas of ownership for this role:
  2. Performing copy-edit tasks on assigned projects or accounts in Gaelic
  3. Performing on-demand translation tasks
  4. Performing linguistic adaptation tasks into enGB
  5. Providing lead support on assigned projects or accounts
  6. Managing and maintaining language materials (including glossaries, Style Guides, work instructions) to meet quality standards and stay current as required
  7. Managing project-related queries
  8. Ensuring good interaction among team members and resolving questions on terminology and language matters
  9. Testing and qualifying new freelancers and vendors as required
  10. Developing and training internal linguists and freelancers according to project needs
  11. Interacting with clients on linguistic matters as needed
  12. Participating in developing new and improved working processes
  13. Achieving goals set by the Squad Lead
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Education Level
  • University degree in Translation/Applied Languages or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of translation/localization experience
  • Experience
  • Native fluency in Gaelic and English
  • Thorough understanding of the localization process
  • Proficiency with standard software such as Windows and Office
  • Experience with CAT tools like XTM, SDL Studio, and issue tracking tools like JIRA
  • Ability to quickly learn new localization tools and applications
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of terminology in multiple subject areas
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to give clear and constructive feedback
  • Effective presentation skills and ability to respond to questions from various groups
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret instructions in various formats
  • Willingness to train and pass on knowledge to others
  • Positive communication skills with customers at all levels
  • Ability to work effectively within a virtual team
