Job summary

Mercy is seeking an Institutional Review Board (IRB) Chair to lead the institution's human subjects protection program, ensuring ethical research and regulatory compliance while advancing scientific progress.

The role oversees IRB meetings, protocol reviews, and reviewer training, providing guidance to investigators on consent and risk mitigation, and advancing Belmont principles across research activities.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a relevant scientific, medical, or legal discipline.
• Deep understanding of human subjects research regulations, the Common Rule, and bioethics.
• Strong interpersonal, conflict-resolution, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Preside over full-board IRB meetings and facilitate consensus voting.
• Oversee expedited and exempt reviews and training of reviewers.
• Interpret and apply federal and state regulations and Belmont Report principles.
• Mentor IRB members and staff on regulatory updates.
• Advise investigators on protocol design and consent requirements.
• Authorize suspension or termination of approvals to protect participants.
