Job Summary
Under the direction of the Site Manager and Physicians, the IR Technologist is responsible for performing high quality, diagnostic angiography and interventional procedures on patients of all ages, demonstrating knowledge of anatomy and angiographic systems. The technologist demonstrates clinical competency in all aspects of interventional radiology including sterile technique, angiographic supplies and medications/lab test values. The work situations for this position are varied and require independent judgment as well as ingenuity and initiative in order to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.
Compensation
Pay: $40.33 - $68.56 per hour based on relevant experience, skills, and abilities. As a per diem position, this role also is eligible for a +15% “in lieu of benefits” hourly bonus.

Location

Schedule
10‑hour shifts, Monday‑Friday, on a per diem basis. Per diem employees are expected to work a minimum of 2 shifts or 16 hours per month.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides patient care in accordance with the mission statement of TRA.
- Obtains a thorough patient history as it relates to the exam to be completed.
- Must be able to closely follow provider instructions, prepare radiographic/fluoroscopy equipment, position patients correctly and accurately capture the diagnostic image needed for the procedure to be completed.
- Completes examinations in a timely manner.
- Adheres to exam protocols and policies, procedures as established by the department.
- Utilizes proper radiation safety devices such as lead aprons and thyroid collars to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure.
- Shields patients from unnecessary radiation exposure. Properly knows how to manipulate and use functions of the C‑arm to reduce dose to patient and staff (ALARA).
- Helps maintain IR supply inventory and has working knowledge of those supplies and their appropriate application as they apply to IR procedures.
- Makes sure supplies are stocked in the IR procedure room, notifies ordering representative when stock is low.
- Sets up for IR procedures by selecting needed supplies for the case and preparing IR equipment and support equipment prior to the procedure.
- Practices sterile technique and maintains a sterile field in setting up for IR cases, and during IR procedures, actively adheres to infection control policies.
- Assists provider and RN with IR cases as needed by acting as a scrub tech.
- Maintains sterile technique and sterile field during procedures.
- Actively engages with the procedure and assists with requests.
- Has working knowledge of the C‑arm and specific functions needed for IR cases.
- Appropriately prepares the patient for IR procedures, positioning, and prepping procedure‑specific site if needed.
- Sterilizes non‑disposable instruments in accordance with company policy and actively participates in QA and sterilization process, and monitoring of sterilization.
- Cleans the IR room and equipment following procedures, actively ensuring the work area is clean and infection control policies are followed.
- Appropriately explains procedures to patients and consents to procedures when appropriate.
- Makes sure patients are educated on procedure‑specific after‑care.
- Assists with post‑procedure follow‑up as needed.
- Completes Modality Worksheet with accurate information for the radiologist.
- Utilizes exemplary customer service skills with patients and family members.
- Performs necessary computer functions associated with patient exam, including the RIS (Radiology Information System) and McKesson PACS.
- Keeps work area and patient exam areas neat and stocked with appropriate supplies.
- Participates in orientation and in‑service training for personnel.
- Able to apply IV principles under the scope of practice for radiologic technologists.
- Wears radiation badge daily.
- Uses good body mechanics to avoid injury to oneself and the patient.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned: checks work e‑mail daily.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited radiologic technology program.
- ARRT registry required or registry‑eligible in interventional radiology.
- Washington State licensure required.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Experience with sterile fields and sterile technique preferred.
- Maintains high standards regarding accurate recording of patient information.
- Utilizes accurate written and oral communications with patients, physicians, co‑workers, and supervisors.
- Cooperates and maintains good rapport with co‑workers to ensure proper patient care and efficient workflow.
- Demonstrates effective customer service skills, using AIDET/4 As.
- Works effectively in a teamwork environment and behaves respectfully while working as a team with co‑workers.
- Communicates professionally with other medical facilities, patients, and customers.
- Manages multiple tasks and carries out instructions effectively.
- Possesses excellent verbal communication skills and good organization skills.

Physical Requirements
Work is classified as moderate in physical requirements. Must be able to assist in supporting patients of varying weight. Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment as necessary.
Mental Requirements
Work requires high attention to detail and the ability to handle mentally stressful situations. The ability to maintain high level of sensitivity towards confidential information is also required.
Working & Environmental Conditions
Work environment consists of normal office or administrative working conditions. There may be exposure to communicable diseases. There will be limited exposure to ionizing radiation.
