Job summary

Association For Institutional Research seeks an experienced researcher to partner with senior staff at Syracuse University. You will identify research needs, design robust methodologies, and lead multiple concurrent projects spanning surveys, institutional data, and analyses.

You will merge datasets from diverse sources and present findings through reports and dashboards to non-technical audiences. The role requires 5+ years in social/behavioral research, with 3+ years in institutional research

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a social or behavioral science field is strongly desired; postgraduate study preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in social or behavioral science research is required.
• 3+ years in institutional research in a university setting is strongly preferred.
• Descriptive and inferential statistics knowledge is required (means, distributions, t-tests, regression).
• Qualitative research experience is a plus.
• Ability to merge data from institutional records, surveys, and external sources.
• Proficiency in a statistical programming language (R preferred) and reproducible code.
• Ability to communicate findings to non-technical audiences.
• Experience with dashboarding software such as Power BI or Tableau is preferred.
• Experience with survey design/administration is preferred.
• Experience querying relational databases is preferred.
• openness to AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT) to streamline workflows is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work with senior staff to identify research needs, define questions, and develop methodologies.
• Lead small- to medium-sized research projects, managing multiple projects concurrently.
• Collaborate with Research Team on projects, including surveys of students, faculty, and staff, and analysis of institutional records.
• Clean, structure, and analyze data to identify trends and generate actionable insights.
• Leverage University-approved AI tools to optimize workflow.
• Build and analyze datasets to fulfill ad hoc requests and support larger projects by merging data from multiple sources.
• Communicate findings to non-technical audiences through reports, presentations, visuals, and dashboards.
