Job summary

LifeWorks NW in Milwaukie, OR is seeking a Supported Employment Specialist to assess, train, and support clients with severe mental illness in finding and keeping employment. This role focuses on identifying skills, exploring job possibilities, and placing clients in suitable community roles.

You will educate employers, coordinate with the IPS fidelity model, and provide ongoing support in community-based or home-based settings, ensuring accessibility and success through structured employment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work or other mental health related field and/or a minimum of three full years working with a similar population required.
  • Must be credentialed through Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO). All prospective candidates must have a valid MHACBO registration number upon hire.
  • Must have a minimum of an additional year of experience in the behavioral health field working with people with disabilities.
  • Requires valid driver's license, proof of current automobile insurance coverage, verification of safe driving record from DMV, and ability to meet LWNW driving requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Ability to master proprietary software including electronic health record system required
  • Must be able to pass a DHS background check.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively; understand mental health assessment, treatment and service terminology and individual, group, family and other counseling techniques; program policies and procedures for services and supports identified in an Individual Services and Supports Plan.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally-competent treatment services to diverse client populations and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Ability to provide employment services and compliance with confidentiality in accordance with federal, state and/or funding source requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews individuals and, if applicable, family members or team members in the client support system to complete the strengths based vocational assessment to identify clients' skills and strengths, interests, goals, dreams, aspirations and resources available to reach their goals.
  • Counsels individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their vocational situations.
  • Develops an employment focused service plans based on clients' interests, abilities, strengths and needs with measurable goals and objectives.
  • Researches possible job openings and opportunities for clients by contacting employment services, newspaper ads, and other outreach methods.
  • Performs job analysis, matching openings with clients' needs and transportation considerations.
  • Establishes and maintains connections with businesses offering employment opportunities.
  • Monitors and tracks employment status; provides written reports; maintains client records in line with confidentiality guidelines.
  • Sets up interviews for clients, assists with applications, resumes, and interview skills.
  • Identifies barriers to employment and develops strategies to overcome them with clients.
  • Maintains contact with clients during training and placement; provides job coaching as needed.
  • Performs interventions with assigned clients at risk of losing their jobs; coordinates with employers and clients.
  • Coordinates and consults with team members to share progress and issues.
  • Counsels individuals, groups, families, or communities regarding vocational rehabilitation.
  • Refers clients to community resources including state vocational rehabilitation services and benefits counselors.
  • Provides crisis intervention to clients as needed.
  • Serves as back-up for other staff when needed.
  • Checks email/voicemail daily and responds within 48 hours for routine matters.
