Position Summary
The
IPM Technician is a full-time position. The IPM Technician oversees the facility's efforts to pre-empt, contain, and remediate pests and disease in the cultivation area. The IPM Technician is responsible for monitoring the plants for disease or harmful pests and to respond to threats. This is achieved by using a range of options such as, but not limited to, careful examination of plants and the surrounding area, analyzing disease and pressure profile, deploying preventative biological controls, and responding to outbreaks. This position reports to the Director of Cultivation and Cultivation Manager. This position has working hours of 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Installs and regularly inspects arthropod trapping devices.
- Makes accurate genus and species identification and recommends least toxic treatments.
- Performs building inspections to identify structural, maintenance, and procedural modifications which will decrease pest incidence.
- Maintains detailed inspection and required chemical usage reports for campus structures.
- Performs regular chemical inventories and maintains labels and MSDS sheets for chemicals used in IPM.
- Applies chemicals, baits, traps, and other pest control components including restricted chemicals in a safe, effective, and appropriate manner.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)
- Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
- Knowledge of integrated pest management practices.
- Knowledge of building construction materials and arthropod behavior.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Knowledge of fertilizer and/or pesticide applications.
- Knowledge of biological specimen preservation techniques.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
Work Environment
- Close visual focus is required.
- This position requires the extended and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to cut and manipulate small objects.
- Must be able to handle organic matter daily, able to wear PPE as appropriate (eye, face, hand, arm, head, foot, body, fall protection,) and be able to be exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions while wearing PPE.
- Exposure to allergens and chemical pesticides in the grow facility.
- Work environments that include exposure to, but not limited to, chemicals, fumes, dust, odors, extreme heat temperatures, heights, indoor A/C, no A/C, motion, noise, protective gear, vibrations, and water.
