IPM Shelter Coordinator, Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services

Join to apply for the IPM Shelter Coordinator, Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services role at NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach, education, surveillance, and enforcement. With a staff of 1,000, the Division covers a broad range of subject matter, including oversight of environmental investigations, lead poisoning, injury prevention, occupational health, food safety, childcare, radiation control, recreational and drinking water quality, air quality, climate health, vector control, veterinary public health, and pest control.

Duties Will Include But Not Be Limited To:

  • Oversee Integrated Pest Management work in homeless shelters throughout the city.
  • Organize and provide educational workshops to homeless shelter staff on best practices in pest control.
  • Liaise with the Department of Homeless Services and review inspection reports collected by the Shelter inspection team.
  • Participate in the development of written reports summarizing work completed in homeless facilities.
  • Coordinate follow-up in assigned homeless facilities with the Senior Exterminating team and other City Agencies as needed.
  • Supervise and conduct environmental investigations related to rodent and pest infestations in homeless facilities and other city areas.

Preferred Skills:

  • Background in environmental sciences and equity-related work.
  • Ability to navigate within institutions with different needs.
  • Experience in training and health education is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple and diverse assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of full-time experience in rodent control, cleanup, extermination, or related community education activities; or
  • One year of full-time experience in pest control, trash collection, street cleaning, park maintenance, building cleaning, or community service work, including three months supervising at least three individuals.

For higher levels, additional experience and education requirements apply. All candidates must be high school graduates or equivalent and have at least one year of relevant professional experience.

Residency in NYC is generally required within 90 days of appointment.

Salary: $72,918.00
