Job summary

Margaret Mary Health in Batesville, Indiana, seeks an ER Registered Nurse for a PRN role in Emergency Services. You will provide nursing care for Emergency Services patients, support patient safety goals, and coordinate care with the team to ensure timely, accurate documentation in the EHR.

The position requires proficiency in essential nursing duties, safe medication administration, and effective communication with patients and families. Previous ER experience and current BLS/ACLS are preferred.

  • Current in BLS, arrhythmia recognition, and ACLS.
  • Ability to operate stretchers, wheelchairs, monitors, and various electrical/battery powered equipment.
  • Ability to use basic office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Use approved abbreviations in documentation.
  • Understand patient safety goals and actions.
  • Identify patients with 2 identifiers before treatments.
  • Read back verbal orders and critical lab values.
  • Clarify physician orders when needed.
  • Use standing orders when indicated.
  • Accurately call reports to physicians and other providers.
  • Report sentinel events, adverse drug reactions, or incidents.
  • Document in EHR before invasive procedures.
  • Reassess patients after changes in condition and document in EHR.
  • Perform clinical skills for all ages in a timely manner and document in EHR.
  • Educate patients, caregivers, and family; communicate with respect.
  • Triage assessment is timely with appropriate classification.
  • Take accurate and appropriate history.
  • Perform comprehensive physical assessments including pain assessment and pain scale.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and safe use of equipment.
  • Collect specimens accurately and timely with proper labeling.
  • Document medications given accurately and timely.
  • Complete narcotic documentation including wastage.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and appropriate use of high-risk medications.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Uses only approved abbreviations.
  • Understands patient safety goals & actions taken.
  • Uses 2 patient identifiers before giving treatments, demonstrates process.
  • Understands read back of verbal orders/critical lab values & can state process.
  • Understands procedure to clarify physician orders.
  • Uses standing orders when indicated.
  • Accurately calls report to MD as warranted by condition; reports to other providers as needed.
  • Reports sentinel events or adverse drug reactions or incidents as warranted.
  • Uses final verification before invasive procedures & can verbalize correct process & documents in EHR.
  • Reassesses patient in response to changes in condition after intervention as needed & documents in EHR.
  • Performs clinical skills for all ages served in a timely & appropriate manner & documents in EHR.
  • Communicates with & provides education to patients, caregivers, & family members in a timely manner (using respect & dignity when dealing with death & dying) & documents in EHR.
  • Triage assessment is done timely, appropriate classification is assigned & responds appropriately to patient condition/complaint.
  • Takes accurate & appropriate history.
  • Performs appropriate physical assessment including pain assessment & use of a pain scale for all patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of & uses equipment appropriately & safely.
  • Collects specimens accurately & timely, including labeling specimens correctly.
  • Accurately & timely documents medications given.
  • Completes accurate & timely narcotic documentation including wastage.
  • Demonstrates knowledge & appropriate use of high-risk medications.
