Job summary

University of California, Santa Barbara is seeking an Intellectual Property Officer 2 or 3 to support licensing activities within the Office of Research. The role involves managing patent prosecution, evaluating technologies, drafting licenses, and monitoring revenues across a large portfolio.

The position offers hybrid work arrangements with on-campus presence and requires a strong chemistry or biological science background, plus knowledge of IP law and contract drafting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/STEM field is required.
• For IP OFCR 2: 0-2 years of experience in tech transfer.
• For IP OFCR 3: 2-4 years of experience in tech transfer.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of patent prosecution for UCSB's portfolio of 650+ inventions.
• Monitor licensing agreements and licensee compliance.
• Perform complex data analysis to support licensing decisions.
• Manage approximately half of UCSB's technology portfolio, evaluating technologies and overseeing protection and budgets.
• Negotiate, draft and oversee licensing agreements and related costs.
• Monitor revenues received under licensing agreements and deadlines.
